Hello Everyone,

I hope you are all well on this cold, Hallowe'en Night. I have bought some chocolate pumpkins for any 'Trick-or-treaters' that might appear tonight! If not, my husband is very partial to chocolate!

Today I am posting a shot of Lindisfarne Castle. To those who are not familiar with Lindisfarne, or Holy Island, it is a rugged piece of land, off the coast of Northumberland, which is connected to the mainland by a 3 mile long causeway. At high tide, Lindisfarne becomes an island for about six hours!

At the highest part of the island is Lindisfarne Castle. This has a very commanding view of the sea and is in a very impregnable position. Originally a Tudor fort, it was converted into a private house in 1903 by the young Edwin Lutyens. The small rooms are full of intimate decoration and design, with windows looking down upon the charming walled garden planned by Gertrude Jekyll. The property also has several extremely well-preserved 19th-century lime kilns.

Thank you for your visit.
I hope you enjoyed discovering Lindisfarne Castle.
Please feel free to give feedback on any aspect of the shot. :-)

Hi Beverley,

Great picture,I have always wanted to go to this castle. It is not that far I should do it. I love the way you used the fence to lead the eye in to the castle.

Cheers
Tom

Very nice view Bev. I love places like this.. they can be soooo romantic...
You took a real nice position here, resulting in a very nice composition. The fence leading you on to the castle. :-)

Cheers,
Anneke

WOW Beverley:
What a glorious POV of the castle.I love the triangular composition of the scene and the light and focus is splendid. Its neat how the fence pulls my eye into the center of the pic and up to the building..... you have a gem here....Thanks for this one Roman:0)

Hi Beverly,
You've certainly piqued my interest in this wonderful old castle. I find your shot perfectly fine; I like how the fence crawls along the shoreline, and I find myself wondering about the other views to the right and behind. A pity we can't post 360 degree virtual tours.

Did you get to tour the castle itself? I'm hoping for more shots of the area.

Amazing! Thanks for sharing . . .

All the best,
Karen

Witaj Beverley,

Nice capture with beautiful landscape. Lovely lighting, colours and composition. I like how my eyes are leading from foreground to background. Very well done & TFS :]

Hi Beverley
Great presentation, you can feel the history in this scene. Love the perspective and your POV. I think I would have cloned out the yellow object on the left. Great job.

Hello Beverly,
Wow, great post for this night :).
Excelent POV, I love the fence which guide me to the castle, the colors and the light.
Thanks!
Mihaela

Not at all cold. We've had a whole run of beautiful spring days! But ...

What a castle! Daunting to an attacker, beautiful to the beholder. You've captured it from just the right POV in excellent light, metering and detail are all spot on.

Very nicely done
Rew

I like it, it has a good balance anc composition.

Regards ;)

Great shot Beverley, lead in lines look good. Took something similar myself a while ago.

The yellow bin is a slight distraction though.

Still a cracking shot.

Peter

Hi Bev,

Hi Bev,
First thought was that I would love to have this as our holidayhome and then I did read your note stating that it becomes an island for 6 hours; now I'm not to sure - well I just enjoy wat I see including the bad weather approaching (or leaving for Holland), becuase your composition is such that the eye has to travel to the castle.

Excellent Bev. Well composed and lovely light and colour with the strong ahdows thrown by the fence a highlight. We have a suburb down south in our capital city by the name of Lindisfarne. TFS,
David

Many thanks for your comment on ‘No More’

It really is a fantastic subject and Holy Island is a interesting place to visit.

You have captured a good shot here, the fence and road directing the eye up to the castle.

I'm not big on the frame, but that is just me!

Wonderful perspective so pleasing to the eye. You should publish a brochure for them as an attraction yes?
Cheerful Regards
Bob

drool!
if i ever get there may i please use that pov
its delightful and more in keeping than one down on the beach
lighting, frame, and titling..and note
all integrated to a masterful composition
cheers

Hello, Bev.

I hope you didn't get any callers last night and that your husband had his fill of chocolate pumpkins.

This is a beautifully composed shot - that fence, and also the little road, just lead the eye to the castle. Pin-sharp and perfectly exposed too. And, as is usual for you, a very interesting and comprehensive note.

Kind Regards,

John.

Hi Bev

This is a place that I have always wanted to go to... good composition and light my only gripe is the 19th century yellow skip that you could have got the wagon to collect or....just a quick stroke of the ol' moose.

anyway up...great shot.. like it..

Beautifully composed landscape shot. The requirements for a foreground, midfield and outfield (horizon) are met fully. The road and fence leads the eye toward the castle. Appropriate time of day. Looks like a bastion destination for some secret and ancient cause. Well done.

Perfect area...Perfect POV and DOF Bravo...

Lovely capture Bev... good use of the fence as a lead into the shot.

Regards Mark :)

Hi Beverley

Somewhere I would love to visit. Excellent composition, sharp details and a nice lead in line created by the fence. It looks stunning

Karan

I do like your perspective here using the fence to lead the eye .. very sharp and excellent focus and exposure .. just a little nit .. the frame seems to steal some of your fine captures glory.

Good eye-lead along the fence toward this imposing structure.

In a simple way, different to a lot your images, a nice landscape, with composition that gives motion to the image, good sharpness, good for light and colours.
Frame on PP is unusual and I like it.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.

Hello Beverley,
An interesting historical monument is well captured!
Once in a while the composition gives itself, this is an example...
Fine double lead-in by fence and road, excellent details in the ancient castle!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Beverley,
this is an impressive capture. Exposure and colours are simply excellent !
Personally though, I would have tried to place the fence more toward the right - perhaps make it start at the right corner.

But that's probably just me nit-picking.
Best regards, Daniel

I spent a long time last night looking through your gallery, it is lovely!! I have seen pictures of this castle before but I really love this pov. The fence and roadway are beautiful leading in, and the lighting and shadows excellent. A very beautiful picture! TFS and have a happy Sunday!
