Anthony Gormleys Angel in Gateshead Tyne and Wear.
There was strong public feeling when it was first commissioned as most residents felt it was a waste of valuable public funds. The Angel of the North is Britain's largest and most impressive sculpture. It stands near the A1 in Gateshead in the North East of England, marking the southerly entry to Tyneside. It towers twenty metres over its hilltop landscape and has a wingspan of fifty-four metres. Commissioned by Gateshead Council, the Angel was created by internationally renowned sculptor, Anthony Gormley. The sculpture was made from two hundred tonnes of steel and has attracted worldwide attention since it was assembled on site in February 1998.
In my opinion it has created a gateway in the once North /South divide. People come to see it from all over the world, no longer is it as some thought “a rusty piece of metal”. It's an amazing sculpture and the weathering elements over the years have only enhanced its deep red tones. This Angel has put Gateshead and the North East of England on the map, and has brought not only tourism but also pride and enjoyment to those living there. I moved to the Isle of Wight just over 2 yrs ago and when I returned to Gateshead in February 2004 to visit relatives it was the first place I stopped. I took the pictures that I have displayed with my Canon Ixus II 3.2mp. I thought about the positioning and the angle, I moved off the pathway and was able to capture the entire image.
The two images that I have shown are to be exhibited on the Isle of Wight in February 2005 and are displayed with the following poetry.

Snow Angel
The wings are frozen, as useless as a Dodo with no hope of flight.
Fixed here for eternity harmless, exposed riveted to a block until the final reckoning.

Looks like hes about to take off and fly away to the distant worlds. nice picture :)

Nice DOF Amanda
I like it

Impressive!! It's huge! You did well in including people in your photo, because it helps to "scale" the statue. Well saturated colors too. Good work!

Hi Amanda, welcome at TL. Excellent picture. With this people it is a great composition, because they show us the real size of the angel.
excellent work
bye alex

Nice composition and DOF - congratulations.

I know about this statue through the Billy Connolly Tour, and isn't it a landmark !
Your composition is very good, leading the eye up and down the wing, then along the snowy slope.
