The Major Oak, Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, England. Once thought to be the tree in which Robin Hood and his band of outlaws hid from the Sheriff of Nottingham; the tree is between 800 and 1000 years old. Today it has to be supported with substantial pillars of steel to take the growing weight of the large branches that grow from the huge 35ft girth of a trunk.
The picture wast taken in RAW format and two versions of the same image merged to allow for the difference in exposure between sky and tree. The metal supports were then cloned out to leave just the 'unsupported' tree in full view.
A line of text and stroke (border) added to finish off the image.
Hope you like it. |
