Hello everyone, wouldn't it be great if we could all work together like these two coots?
All they have are their beaks to make a home for their eggs [and chicks].I really don't know how they manage it...could you do the same with just your mouth?
Nature is wonderful.

The coots keep building their nests, continually reinforcing it day by day.As my husband and I walk past the birds, we try to find twigs and dried grass to help the birds in their task, throwing the bits into the water!
They seem to appreciate the help, and as we look back, the birds begin to use our donations.
We haven't seen any chicks, but we have been quite busy, so we haven't been able to walk near the lake as often as in the past.

Thanks for looking.

Hi Jean,
What a great shot, these birds work so hard to build there nests, I just hope they manage to have a nice brood of chicks.
I like the way that you have captured the ripples on the water, and lovely colours in the water.

Jane

Hi Jean, excellent capture of the birds and their nest-building, it looks very active the way you got this. TFS

Hello Jean
Great capture of these coots. I like the detail of the nest, and they certainly seem busy.

I would love to be able to sit and watch them work. A really beautiful nature shot!! TFS and have a great week!

Hi Jean,
These coots are identical to the Australian Coot we have her in NZ. I posted one quite recently.
How nice of you to help mum and dad out with their renovations.
I hope you will keep us posted on how the family is getting on.
Oh, nice clear image, a real 'decisive moment'.
Pete.

Hello Jean,

The V-shaped ripples in the moving water around the nest give a sense of urgency to the birds' building activities. I hope that as it gets bigger it won't be swept away. Having written that, I now see from your notes that this nest is on a lake?!

Anyway, it's a fine clear image, the randomness of the nest contrasts nicely with the sleekness of the birds themselves.

It's good that the clarity of the water allows to see the green colours beneath the surface.

We await updates.

Regards,

Peter.
