I have recently discovered a very English slightly eccentric gallery. It was purpose built to display the work of the Victorian artist GF Watts and is one of only a few single artist galleries still remaining in their original format. See
www.wattsgallery.org.uk/ for details.
At the rear of the main gallery is a small room housing what appear to be abandoned statues.
Watts wife Mary helped to found the Compton Pottery on the site and the gallery has a small but beautiful display. However just along the road is the most amazing chapel built by the Watts family and decorated by Mary and pupils from the local pottery school that she founded to help prevent the working classes from frequenting the local "Gin Palaces". It is breathtaking and I recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
I will post my best efforts at shots inside the chapel on another day.
The gallery has recently been awarded Lottery funding and they are raising match funding for what is undoubtedly a much needed restoration project but my advice is go now before it is sanitised. Atthe moment you can roam freely and the place has a real character and atmosphere. |

Hello Steven,
A very meaningful pose, indeed!
Since your statue (Pensive) is abandoned and naked, maybe it/she can wear Tangy's coat, which is also feeling quite deserted!
Thanks for sharing,
Esperança
