I had to go to a conference at Brighton today. I didn't have much time to take photos but I grabbed a couple of shots before the event started. This is taken very early in the morning (I'm standing on the beach wearing my smart work clothes and with a briefcase on a cold winter morning - I must be mad)

Information on the Pier taken from www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/Brighton/PalacePier.htm

Brighton Palace Pier was one of the last piers to be constructed in England. Designed by R St George Moore, it was to be built solely as an amusement and pleasure emporium. At 1,760ft (533.3m) in length, and boasting a wider than usual deck, the pier had everything the discerning tripper could wish for. A 1,500-seater pavilion at the seaward end was complimented by smaller pavilions containing dining rooms, grill rooms, smoking rooms and reading rooms. There were ornamental arches for the electrical illuminations, and an electric tramway ran up the centre. Provision for bathers at the pier head, and a landing stage for pleasure craft completed the picture. Work commenced on the new Palace Pier in 1891 but continued slowly due to financial problems. The bulk of the new pier was completed by 1899 and, despite the fact it would take a further two years to complete the seaward end platform and an accompanying pavilion, it was decided that the official opening should go ahead.

Hi Karan

I like the sharpness and color of this image, but really makes this shot is person walking on the beach. It almost seems like they are going to walk right into the waves on the way to the pier.

A well composed shot and the colours are beautiful. The reflection of the sky and the elongated darker reflections of the pier and person walking on the wet sand give a special athmosphere to the picture. Well chosen title!

Tibi

Hi Karan, this is lovely and your note really made my day. That is exactly the kind of situation I am always finding myself in. But it does pay off doesn't it, when you manage to take this kind of scene home. I would have cropped a bit higher from the bottom to create a slightly better balance - but that's a detail.

Great sharpness and a beautiful sky Karen.
The early bird.....
Best wishes Mark

Nice sharp shot. I like the golden colours and reflections. Well done. Ed

Composition, colours and landscape - I like it very much,

I often stop myself short of taking more daring photos because of what some stangers may think. BUt I can imagine you in your work attire taking a shot (that turned out magnificent by the way) so I think it's time to not worry so much about what others think.
TFS and cheers!

This pier is simply fantastic. And you got it from a very interesting different angle and time of the day.
Very nice work.

Hi Karan,
This is a grand photo. Very well composed and captured. I am in two minds about the figure on the right. For me he kinds of distracts the viewer from the main subject, which I suppose is the pier. Well done.

Hi Karan,
Beautiful photo! I like much the rare harmony of gray and yellow luminous tones! Gleams and reflections give a moody atmosphere enhanced by the alone silhouette walking towards the pier. Very well done! Annie

Hi Karan,

Amazing DOF, sharpness on the foreground and background is excellent. Excellent composition. TFS

Great pic, the light and contrast are great, and so are the composition and tones. Just beautiful.

Hello Karan,
I went there many years ago and I have a very good souvenir from this place. We went to night club and there was a bomb alert that night; that was kind of weird…

Your picture is so beautiful! I like this lightning, POV and composition. LOL, I can imagine you on this beach with your briefcase :-) Thanks,
Claudine

Hi Karan,

This is so beautiful!! Love the lighting and contrast here! The fact that you've included the man added life to the composition!

Very well done

Hello Karan,
gorgeous beach scene, wonderful how the sun reflects on the outgoing tide. Very well composed. with superp color and lovely silhouettes.
TFS..Sky

Great to have that one human element in this composition. I like the colours and that wonderful sky.

Hi Karan,
Add to that, you brought a camera and tripod with you to a conference. I think the photography bug hit you hard :) The funny thing is that we both took our camera and tripod to work on the same day. I took a few morning shots on my way to work.

The photo. Just stunning. The colors in the sky, the low POV the pier with still some details visable and the person who balances the photo. All picture perfect. A "whish I made this" photo.

Good compositon, the golden color on the beach looks very neat. :) Vandana

Lovely sunrise shot with the pier and the man making interesting silhouettes and superb colours and textures. For my money there's a bit too much foreground, but cropping it would centre the horizon too much, so I'm not sure theres much improvement to be made. Great stuff!
Thanks for sharing
Mark
