Achtung Spitfeuer

Well this will be the final picture of the Duxford Flying Ledgends Air Show for the time being. Several TL members asked me: "Were is the real flying legend; the Spitfire?" Well here it is! Going together with the WWII German airman yel: "Achtung Spitfeuer!" :-) [Watch out Spitfires!]
Anyway hope you like this line up of different Spitfire types; from left to right: Mk IXB, Mk IX, Mk XIX and Mk XIV.

In the WS#1 you can find the final fly pass of 24 Flying legends.

In WS#2 the images of a mishap during landing of a P-51D Mustang.

[Report] Landing P-51D...nhaaa landing? More a less controlled crash. Anyway, while I was on the phone, keeping the mobile in my left hand, I tried to make some shots of landing P-51 Mustangs after the final fly pass. I noticed the landing of this P-51 wasn't going as planned. The aircraft bounced of the grass pitch up violently, came bqack to earth on his left landing gear strut (for our English friends: undercarriage) and pitched up again and showed the strut and left wheel were different from the original design. When is came back to earth for the third time he pitched down with his propeller almost hitting the ground and tipping over (at least he enjoyed three landings for the price of one) the Mustang made a sharp turn to the left and came to a rest ad the edge of the runway...the pilot climbed out of his cockpit unharmed. While this happend I gave my colleagues on the phone a life report of what happened in front of my eyes.

It was great to show you some impressions of the Duxford Flying Legends Air Show 2008!

Looking at this image made me think of the old war movies where we would see these planes taking off over Europe and England.

It's been a super series from you Hans, and I was showing my 4 year old grandson this morning - he was thrilled to see the old planes - yes, at four. He wanted to see more of them.

Great image my friend, I bet these four flying together sounded like music to the ears, I bet the main fly past was great to see and hear too, the guy in your workshop witn the P-51 was lucky too, a well captured event, I would have dropped the phone LOL.

Achtung!! My dad would just LOVE to see these in person! He is a WWII plane freak! This is nice Hans, seems dark on my screen, but my screen here is weird! Nice details...out on the wings again eh?

Hello Hans!

There was time , a close view like this one would be pretty scary . Fortunately these days are behind us. I am talking of these Spitfires of course. Today, the most modern ones are not visible, are more dangerous, as you do not see them or even ear them coming.

But about the photo, another spot on shot. You nailed this close formation. All pilots can be clearly seen. Well done again !

Three landings for the price of one, eh? I like that turn of phrase :)
Great timing on this shot and fun framing.
If I may offer one small suggestion, it would be to adjust the shadows a little to bring out more detail in the planes against those heavy clouds

My all-time favourite fighter planes, Hans, though the ME-109 comes close, but a Spit is much more elegant of course ☺^☺.
They should train those pilots to keep in mind that, for photographical purpose, they'd need to fly at slightly different altitudes, so they'd keep their planes from "touching" each other.
I like the way you captured the entire flight, though I'd have liked to see more space in front of the leader; his prop is about to touch the frame...
I also think being on the phone without 'handsfree set' should be as 'discouraged' as doing it whilst driving. I think your light meter was metering the entire frame instead of concentrating on the planes; these are a bit too dark for my liking, the camouflage patterns are nearly invisible. I tried to do something about that in my ws.

TFS the ws bonus shots, and for telling the story. Was that a certified pilot trying to land the Mustang?

Sure very exciting to capture them like this, but in this picture they looks very static, Hans.
Met 750 sec. staan de props ook still.
Maar aan scherpte geen gebrek, de 'jongens' zijn goed te zien.

Tof om er zo vier verschillende op dezelfde plaat te hebben !
Inderdaad nu zie ik eens de verschillen :-)

Nu, ik heb ook de WS van Frank bekeken.
Gewoon op zich zie je de vliegtuigen beter maar,
IK vind de kleuren niet echt mooi : wat vlak, afgewassen.
Dus ik zie het eerder in de B/W-richting, meer silouette
( niet helemaal ) om juist die verschillen in de verf
( nu ja, bij wijze van spreken :-) ) te zetten.
Eén probleem zijn de vleugels : daar zou werk aan zijn om toch nog wat structuur te behouden.
Zoals altijd is het maar een idee.
