I was visiting a friend who has a large garden. These colourful Gazanias were scattered around the garden, and seemed to be a real haven for the bees, as they were certainly buzzing around looking for nectar. The Gazanias provide non stop flowering from about mid summer until the fall. A welcome addition to any garden.

Northern Ireland has had a real problem in recent times with a big die off in the bee population. Whole hive colonies have been collapsing. Bees are so essential to pollination so it has been a real agricultural worry. It is thought a virus may be part of the problem. The other problem is that their radar system may be compromised by the cell phone masts. The bees lose their 'homing' beacon and cannot find their way back to the hive. So far, a solution to the problem doesn't seem to have materialized.

In California, there is such a shortage of bees that they are trucking in hives. A whole industry has grown to to support pollination of all the almond , cherry trees etc. CA has another problem also. Heavy pesticide use, which also has a real effect on the bees. The Central Valley is a heavy growing area and is lethal for aerial spraying. The wind drift is serious, so the bees have to be affected.

Hola Joni,
precioso encuadre y foco...
colores y bella composición.
saludos amiga.

Hi Joni; I've heard of the same thing happening here in Canada with bees. There was speculation for a while that maybe there was a virus in the colonies, but I don't know if that was ever verified.
Beautiful shot here. Nice colors, sharpness and detail.

Hello Joni. This beautiful flower is irresistible to critique. You have captured really well from the top. The bee is very well perched on those beautiful stamens. Thanks for sharing this excellently framed shot and best regards. Jusni

A colourful image Joni. The bumble bee stands out well against the colours of the gazania. These flowers are attractive in all their colours but can be most invasive. TFS,
David
