This is Northern Ireland's (probably) most popular natural attraction, part of UNESCO World Heritage, Giant's Causeway.
Why is it called so? If you are interested, read the legend at Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant%27s_causeway

Some information from Wikipedia:

The Giant's Causeway (or Irish: Clochán na bhFómharach) is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. It is located in County Antrim, on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, about two miles (3 km) north of the town of Bushmills. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, and a National Nature Reserve in 1987 by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland. In a 2005 poll of Radio Times readers, the Giant's Causeway was named as the fourth greatest natural wonder in the United Kingdom. The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, although there are also some with four, five, seven and eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres (36 ft) high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres thick in places.
The Giant's Causeway is today owned and managed by the National Trust and it is the most popular tourist attraction in Northern Ireland.

Good morning, Kristof!

Wonderful view of the Columnar Joints of Basaltic origin!
The seawater gives great contrast to these dark colored hexagonal strcutures, made by a volcanic eruption. The sky partially covered with clouds bring mood into the picture. The sharpness and POV are just ideal.
Very well seen!

Thanks for posting.

regards,
Paras Bhalla

Hi Kristof,
A very good vertical format for this capture.
An interesting POV with these fantastic upright rocks.
Good lighting and an ample DOF.
Very natural colors all over.
A good informative note as well.
Good job.

Hi Kristof

I remember this place, from one of the Led Zeppelin album covers, when I was in high school. "Houses of the Holy" perhaps? There's a similar spot at Fingal, on the north NSW coast, in Australia. Apparently, the hexagonal shapes are caused by rapid cooling, when basaltic lava hits the seawater. The same phenomenon can be seen in Hawaii today. Tfs!

hi kristof
very well shot, close to the rocks gives one the size and shape of them, good colour and great detail.

A classic looking landscape scene in a vertical format. A higher f stop would probably yield more depth, but the f/4 setting chosen resulted in good details and sharpness. Fine rock texture, the distant clouds drape the scene well. Best regards...

Salut Kristof.
Intéressante image qui montre un effet géologique parfaitement naturel et de tout beauté.
Les couleurs bien équilibré et la bonne netteté permet une bonne vision.
Bonne journée.

HI Kristof, this is a wonderfully composed image. Excellently shown.
Regards Rose

hello my friend you have shown me a place i want to visit your pov on this shot is excellent as is the details tfs
regards bryan

Hello Kristof,
I have seen this formation within the trek site before, but your angle with the foreground adds much to the scene as it allows a much clearer view to the immensity of the basaltic blocks that are now submerging under the sea. The shapes are great in the foreground, as Cobble Stones along the beach.
Good lighting and depth.
Have A Great Weekend...
Steve

Hello Kristof,
I love the minimalistic approach to this photo. The way the shapes of the rock return in the clouds and how the cool blue colors contrast with the warm stones is wonderful.
Best regards Siegfried

Hello,
Stunning shot of that famous place!
Excellent POV. Lovely colours and light.
Nice composition of the photo and good presenation.

Have a good WE!

Hi Kristof,
Interesting scene! I enjoyed reading your note. I like your POV here, with the lead-in of the rocks. The horizon looks very straight, the wispy looking clouds are a nice feature too. The colours seem natural throughout. Simplistic but effective, nicely taken.

TFS,
Scott.

Hi Kristof..nice shot...great details and light..nicely composed.

Roger

wow an amazing place, wonderful capture, very sharp and nice textures and shape, what a great place to have a camera, great shot!

Bonjour Kristof
Henri

Hello Kristof,

A fine capture of The Giant's Causeway where you have shown clear details of the individual stones and also their compounded effect.
Your choice of portrait format works really well giving great depth to the shot.

You were so lucky to have good weather.
It was drizzling when we visited this site!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Kristof

Fine shot of the causeway, I have been meaning to go there a few times but still never been there.
Good POV which shows the pattern of the rcoks close up but also the height of them in the distance.
TFS
