[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I had to go visit my friends restaurant last week during day time just to collect some stuff for me. This restaurant is shut during day time so I decided to take advantage of the empty dining hall and photograph it in natural afternoon light filtering in through the window in the background.

Here i aligned myself behind a vertical aisle of tables to obtain some kind of pattern which i did by including the line of chairs, wine glasses and the tables in my frame.

My second thought was to add some effect to this shot so out of the four wine glasses i select the one in the middle to focus on - which produced a front and a backed bokeh.

Did some cropping in PS and adjusted levels and some brightness and contrast and there result is here for you all to comment.

I would highly appreciate all suggestions to improve this pic.

Salam bro

Thats a very creative experiment, I appreciate that u took advantage of empty dinning hall, doing experiment. This is how u'll improve ur skills :)

I pretty like the emptiness, very nice exposure control :)
The pattern of chairs sequence, spoons and Goblets makes this one stands out!

The Shallow DOF is fair enough to show the blur elements.
IMO u may took out the napkin from the focused goblet filled it with some colored drink (preferably RED wine???) and then focused it, it'd helped to make it more prominent among the rest of them.
Thats just a personal opinion u may (dis)agree :)

This one is beautifully done. U'd have noticed the improvement in ur work urself ;)

Happy shooting

Regards,
Jahanzeib

I like this, it's unusual!
However I'm not sure you've really used the focal point effectively, I find myself wanting that wine glass to be sharp - but it isn't, quite. Only the chair on the extreme left is propery in focus, although there may be some impact from the slow shutter speed as well?

Hello Mustafa,
I do admire the concept and idea of this composition. Goodness I have tried this similar setting before - with and without success. The shallow dof is adequate in showing the ambiance of the empty restaurant. Composition wise, you chose a difficult scene as there is an interplay of light and shadow. For effective metering, I would choose spot metering and aim it at the brightest corner. I would have moved to eliminate the distraction to the right of the frame. My son, who has a similar cam, informed me the other day that D90 works best when the AF feature is directed to the first 1/3 of the fg frame. Keep on experimenting buddy, and I hope you don't get discourage. Greetings from Wash D.C.

Salam Mustafa

Superb use of a shallow dof with selective focus on the fg elements. Good colour, sharpness & lighting. Nice repetition of the layered wineglasses. Tfs!

ciao Mustafa

compo and light are superb!! a great capture!

ciao Marco
