Ardnamurchan Lighthouse in rough seas at dusk with waves crashing on the rocks. The lighthouse is situated on the west coast of Scotland and Ardnamurchan point is the most westerly point of the British mainland.

The Lighthouse isn't the easiest to get to, a 30 mile single track road is the only way there. It's a fantastic place and in stormy weather like above it has tremendous atmosphere.

I got very wet on this night. Camera and lens wer protected with an element cover.

I don't use points so feel free to comment, critique, leave points or don't leave points - it's completely up to you!

Hi Paul,
This is astunning picture, excellent camera settings making this a very special shot; a large f-stop going along with a long shutter speed. A very inspiring picture, I think I'm going to try these settings also. Thanks for showing my friend!

Hi Paul,
Excellent capture, I like the way the waves meet the sky to surround the lighthouse and leave it in the clear, from your POV it liiks like you were right in with the waves. Very good action/land/seascape shot very well taken IMO.
well done
Tfs Andy

Hi Paul,

Perfect timing here, the sea movement has been captured beautifully, It certainly looks like you were swamped a few times but it;s always worth it when you get the shot.

Hi Paul - How special, how wild, how different! The tremendous atmosphere you mention in your note can be easily understood by looking at your photo. I 'must' make this a favourite. It is so well done. TFS! - Cordelia :)))

Hello Paul,
really perfect shoot.
thanks

Hi Paul,
My first thought was; Did he stay dry taking this photo. Looks like you didn't. I am actaully stunned that you were able to stay on you spot and didn't get picked up by a wave. (it has alomst happend to Steve Emerson) The action of the waves and spray are really awesome. The fact that the view to the lighthouse is still clear and not blocked by some of the heavier spray amazes me. The composition with the edge of the FG rocks taking me to the lighhouse is perfect.I like the soft warmer tones captured in the clouds. They just add that bit extra.
TFS,
Niek

Hi there!
An excellent picture! The POV is brilliant, and also the composition. I love the use of the longer shutter speed to really capture the movement of the waves.
Well done!

Hi Paul
Excelent work with this shot going to make it one of my favorates well done also going to add it to the Lighthouse theme

stunning

Ron

Ps just an afterthought how much post-production was performed with this shot do you use HDR and did you afford yourself a touch of artistic lience with the lighthouse light ;-) Its still a great work, I still love it to bits I would just like to know.

A great shot Paul, well thought out and executed. Love the use of slow shutter speed and your point of focus is perfect. Really leads the eye to it through the blurred waves. A terrific picture. Has a beautifully monochromatic effect too. A real cracker.

Paul,

Very nice photo. Keep up the good work-all your pictures are great. I also like your conversion to black and white-makes it look more like a painting.

Hello Paul !

Striking shot . No wonder why already 8 , Opus ( 9 with me ) choose this one as a favorite . What a beauty ! Lovely long exposure. The movements , the lighthouse framed naturally between the sprays. the colors .
A little gem. Thanks fot for sharing thuis . Certainly a well worthed trip.
Bravo!
Robert

This is wonderful work Paul, absolutely love this, the swirl and obviously the shutter speed was perfect for this to work so well, I especially love the way the spray has left a gap like a partially opened curtain to reveal the lighthouse in all it's glory. TFS

Hi Paul,
I was just looking through your images trying to help out somebody who wants to buy a 50-500 and came across this. It's stunning, I'm blown away. The foreground is superb, so much going on and the different directions of the water adds dynamics. The shutter speed is perfect. And framing the lighthouse with airborne water either side is the icing on the cake. Fantastic.
Cheers,
Adrian

Hi Paul

It looks like I'm not alone in admiring your amazing work here. Everything is well captured including the rapidly moving water, the wisp of the wave action, and symbolically strong and sturdy light house in the background. These two elements (the chaos of the water and the immovable object of the lighthouse) contrast one another in a very successful capture. Thanks for sharing this new favorite of mine.

Hello again Paul,

Just taking a glance at your photos. This one has such drama! I reminds me of the crashing waves on the coast of the Pacific out here in California. I've only learned in recent years how dangerous those waves can be when they sweep people from the shore sometimes to their death! When I first came out to California a group of musical colleages and myself were draping our legs over the rocks right next to the swelling waves . . . without a clue that they could have easily pulled us under. We were even cheering when they were larger! Idiots, though in retrospect it was fun!

Hello Paul
great picture, just a dream
great effect
beautiful composition
i wonder how you have done that. great shot

manuj mehta

very dramatic shot, and fits the description you posted on your note. i think the shutter speed setting help preserve some movement on the waves, but at the same time create the mist/ghostly feel of the waves that makes the shot very dramatic. i like the way you framed the lighthouse as well, and timing of the shot was perfect. overall i think there's a fantastic balance of the details.

cheers!
