The 18th century was a time of politycal turmoil in Scotland. After the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745 soldiers, known as redcoats, built a military road from Dumbarton to Inveraray to bring pice to the Highlands. It came trought the glen and crossed Kinglas Water here at Butterbridge. You can still stand on the old bridge built by the soldiers.
