A beautiful weekend of summer like warmth and blue skies drew me out into the Dumfriesshire countryside. This is Winterhope reservoir still and oh so peaceful with only the sheep on the hillside, a pair of swans and a great crested grebe for company. Later in the season a handful of anglers will be here to fish for the rainbow trout that are stocked here.
ps I made a mistake today (7th March) and added a picture of a plant for what i thought Friday theme was today - GREEN. My mistake as I later realised that today the theme is reflection. Oh dear! silly me! so I have cheated by addin a photo I posted previously. Am I forgiven? if not then please don't give me points. I won't do this again I promise.

A very tranquil scene, Bev. Nice colours and a very good contrast, the reflection is awesome, compo is excellent.
I think you downsized a bit too fast, or with too less of a quality setting; in the water the jpeg compression is very obvious, alas.
Anyway, TFS

Hi Bev
what a wonderful view.
beautiful composition and reflection on the clear water.may be it would be more impressive with a bit more details.

Hi Bev,
great scene well captured. I especially like the pin sharp reflections. Lovely colours too.
Cheers, John.

Unbelievable Bev, what a mirror lake you have here and I see you enjoyed the same beautiful sunshine as here in the Netherlands.

TFS your outing into the countryside. Beautiful!

Hi Bev,

Wonderful reflection and I love the way the water goes really dark and spooky.

Cheers
Tom

Hello Bev,

There are some lovely colours and reflections here, and you have made the most of the beautiful weather, that we have had down south as well, in the last few days.

The image is sharp - although there is a little bit of a halo effect along hills to the left - I find it's very difficult to avoid this, while trying to get the rest of the image sharp enough.

After reading Frank's comments, I had a close look at the water, by saving the picture, and zooming in on it. This reveals very fine ripples on the surface. I think this is exactly what they are. I can't see these as compression artefacts.

I will be very interested to read any answer from Frank about "downsizing too fast". I know some people like to do it in stages, with something like a TIFF image, but I've been told it's not advisable to do this with JPEG images. You lose quality every time you resave the image.

The only niggle I do have is that there is a bit of CW tilt.

Regards,

Peter.

Hello, Bev.

To my mind, this is a cracker! I just love reflections on water and can't see enough of them. Like yourself and Peter, I don't quite understand what Frank means by "downsizing too fast" - perhaps he'll expand on that one later.

Did you use your tripod for this one since your shutter speed was slow at 1/15 sec.? Perhaps you could have got away with a wider aperture and a faster speed particularly as there's nothing in the near foreground - or did you feel that a longer exposure would help the surface reflections, which I believe it can?

Anyway, a cracker indeed!

Best Wishes,

John.

Hello Bev,

This is a beautiful scene!
The water is like glass and gives the most perfect reflections!
I like how the tones change from left to right, and the shadows assist the interpretation of the relief.
Excellent all round!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
