[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It took Nadeem Aslam eleven years to write this book and less than two days for me to read it. I would have finished it quicker if I had not forced myself to read his wonderfully descriptive passages slowly in order to savour them. Beautifully lyrical, this book took my breath away with the depth, bravery, and poetic skill of its writer. It is like an applique work describing moths, butterflies and flowers and infused with perfumed flowers and spices.Unbelievably, only twenty six when he started this book, Nadeem Aslam completed this masterpiece at the age of thirty seven in 2004. I could say that the book is about two lovers who go missing, the victims of an honour killing. Yet this is not a murder mystery, it is about much more. It is about culture, ignorance and bigotry. And although set in an asian Muslim community it is not an invective against Islam but I suggest one against fundamentalism in all its guises. But much more than this, it is about love.Read it.
This is my first posting using the Valentine's gift to me by my husband, a Canon macro lens EF-S 60mm

Hi Bev,
Splendid close-up on this book! You created a warm atmosphere with this lighting. Excellent set-up with the rose. Very well composed. Beautifully done! Annie

ps/ I go right now to search the french version!

Hi Bev,
Why did it took the author that long ... possibly Nadeem got lost too while writing the book :) Very good capture ... this should have been ideal as the book cover itself. Well composed and presented. Well done! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hi Bev, You must have more than a touch of the romantic. Combining all of these elements: the book; the rose; the gift from your Husband, in one post. Bravo.
Clive

Hello Bev,

So true about books and musics. You must be an avid reader. Nice warm shot of the book and the fragile petals of the rose. Well written notes too.

Regards,
Jusni

Hi, Bev,
A nice idea to advertise in a stylish way a book. I assume, the author would be flattered:)

This could have been the cover, Bev. All the beautiful elements and your wonderful notes. I visit your wonderful land in a couple of weeks and now you have added romantic to my preconceived image, of the people. I will look for the book now as well. This is a superb posting.
Regards,
Wanda

Hello, Bev.

May I congratulate you on a fabulous first posting of a picture taken with that wonderful new macro lens? I believe it was a present from your husband on Valentine's Day - I received mine at Christmas a couple of years back and my first posting using this lens was of a Valentine's rose.

Considering you used the lens wide open at f/2.8, this picture is sharp as a razor with just the right amount of out-of-focus where it's needed.

Can I ask you what lighting you used? The lighting, especially on the rose, is fabulous. Sorry to be an "anorak", but I find that sort of information interesting!

Excellent shot, Bev, and a great note too. You are a true aesthete!

Best Wishes,

John.
