[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A waterlogged field, saturated by weeks of rain reflects a welcome blue sky of early November.I went out with my camera, while I could, before the grey skies are upon us.An old hedgerow skirts the field carrying in earlier months both these rosehips and also blackberries.Further along there are wild damsons too as well as elderberries.Rosehips can b e made into rosehip syrup which is rich in vitamin C. This was a vital source of vitamins during the Secong World War when fruit was scarce. Children were encouraged to collect them "for the war effort".Nowadays they are largely ignored as I suspect that the making of rosehip syrup is a time consuming activity.

Hello, Bev.

What a beautiful clear and sharp picture with wonderful deep colours! Good composition too, with a nicely out-of-focus background.

I see that your focal legth was 60mm - did you use your macro lens for this one?

I like your note as well: rosehip syrup seems, I think, to have gone out of favour somewhat recently. I remember that when I was at school, some girls (they were horrid creatures then) used to pick rosehips and dry out the stuff inside them to make a pretty effective itching-powder which they then shoved down the back of your collar.

Best Wishes,

John.

Hi Bev,

The late evening sun shining on this bare brach is beautiful.
In the FG I see indeed that this is a field and not a lake.
Nice diagonal.

Tyro's comment made me laugh, because all of a sudden I did remember the drying of the rosehips (I was one of those girls....).
We had indeed syrups and jams, probably gone out of fashion indeed.

Hello Bev.

Beautiful view at autumn. Different and so nice and gentle. Love detail in the front, and soft background with the water. Good work!

TFS!

Sincerely,
David

Hello Bev,

This has a very Japanese feel to it - the pale blue-green background of the floodwater makes a fine foil for the red of the rose hips themselves. The diagonal of the main branch makes for a strong and satisfying composition.

Unlike your other critiquers I am old enough to remember actually picking these during WW2 - I think we got 6d [old money] per pound. Not only that, we were dosed up with the resulting syrup!

Nice one!

Regards,

Peter.

Hello,
excellent colours and composition, great image
best regards
Ryszard

Hi Bev,
A nice abstract nature photo with some really wonderful colors. I like how the light has hit the rose bush and how it seems to have given the water this intens blue color. The diagonal line of the twig is very effective and the contrast of the two red rosehips makes for some additional striking contrast.
TFS,
Niek

Beautiful light on the rosehips and its thorny branch. The water makes a lovely backdrop and works well with the light for this composition. Excellent1
