A morning walk with low lying mist.Of course the meat of these sheep will be classed as lamb rather than mutton as they will be young. Mutton is a term used for the meat of sheep that have not been lambs for a considerable time. Cuts of mutton were the diet of the less well off, not being so tender as lamb's meat. I remember cheap cuts of meat and recipes using offal other animal parts not generally seen in our supermarkets these days being very common. My granny ate tripe ( stomach lining) and pigs trotters boiled and laced with vinegar for flavour. I wouldn't recommend it!

Hi Bev,
Great rural capture, the lambs (or muttons?) and the mist looks pleasant, a typical dark, autumn composition. The landscape looks mysteriuos in the fog. Let me add you sot to my collection of 'Misty landscapes', I hope you don't mind!
TFS.
Best regards,
Kristof

very nice and well composed...Congrats!

thanks for sharing,
raven

Hi,
nice foggy photo with foggy mood, good composition
best regards
Ryszard

Hello Bev,

A fine misty morning shot - it's interesting that the black-faced [Suffolk?] sheep are ignoring you, while the white-faced ones are obviously keener on having their pictures taken.

Nice soft green colours of the grass fading away into the mist.

My only niggle is that strange tortoise-like object lurking in the FG. I think I might be tempted to crop that away at the bottom, and a little from the top to make a slightly more panoramic composition.

I once kept some lambs until they were about 5 years old - their mutton was delicious! Try some if you get a chance.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Bev
Very good autumn atmosphere picture.
very nice soft lightning.
Gr Jos

Hello Bev,an alternative title could be 'Mint sauce'!
A pleasant atmospheric shot which is the all the better for the sheep, especially that some of them have shown interest in your activity!
Good autumn scene.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Hello Bev,
A very attractive rustic scene. Carefully metered and composed. Well done and my compliments...Danilo

Very nice natural picture. I love those kind of picture when fog and animals are present. Very well done! What's in the grass in the front left side of the picture? A squirrel ?

Most times Bev mutton is tastier than lamb. You had the attention of some of them and they are well positioned within the frame. Nice tones and the fog makes the shot,
David

Great shot.

The mist and light is what makes this shot in my opinion.

We have had mutton many times when eating hot pot. Thanks to your note I know know what it is. Old sheep. Lol

Great shot

Hi Bev,
This is very attractive misty pastoral scene!
I like the three horizontal plans in your composition. I think this is what enhances the simplicity and the timeless aspect of this scene.
Very good capture of light.
Bravo! Annie

Hello, Bev.

This is Fabulous!

A wonderful picture which really is enhanced by the morning mist. If there are advantages of autumn/winter weather over that of the summer, it's that you don't need to be up quite so early to catch the morning sun or the mist. This morning walk was well sorth the effort!

The colours are superbly autumnal and the sheep stand out beautifully against the misty background.

I must say, I shouldn't have noticed that piece of branch/twig or whatever if Peter (graffer) hadn't mentioned it - I don't find it particularly distracting.

But I do agree with Peter about mutton - the best "sheep meat" I have ever had was from an ageing ewe which it was no longer profitable for the farmer to keep: I seem to recall that older ewes are not actually infertile but that their teeth wear out and, as such, they cannot take in sufficient nutrition to maintain a pregnancy or to feed their lambs. Peter would know better about that. Anyway, the meat was incredibly rich and tasty and lean with wonderful dark gravy - the only slight drawback was that it was slightly fibrous: but I much preferred it to lamb which is often quite fatty.

Oh, and on the subject of tripe - I'm desperate to try that again - do you know of a good butcher who can supply it either raw or half-cooked? My mother occaionally made tripe and onions when I was a kid and I loved it! So I want to try it again but my partner refuses to cook it, so I'll have to do it myself!

But I digress. I like your picture a lot, Bev. A great shot and thank you for sharing it.

Kind Regards,

John.

HI Bev...nice shot...great mood and soft tones...

Hi Bev,

It works lovely that early morning fog. It does create a very peaceful atmosphere as if you are inside a cocoon.
How great it must have felt walking here.
I do remember those black faced sheep. Met them 10 years ago for the first time in Blairgowrie.
