Scotland does not claim to have invented the bagpipes, but it does claim to
have developed them into an art. Roman legions once marched to the pipes,
and even the Indian snake-charmer today uses a pipe which, although it has
no bag, is basically the same as the Highland one. Most countries in the world
have tried their hand at the bagpipes (even England, where there was a pipe
band at court in 1327), but only in Scotland have they survived long enough
to become a great musical instrument.

The Old Blacksmith's shop, built around 1712, and Gretna Hall Blacksmith's Shop (1710) became, in popular folklore at least, the focal point for the marriage trade. The Old Blacksmith's opened to the public as a visitor attraction as early as 1887.

Hi Tsilla,

A great picture with an informative note!
From the quality of teh picture, one can't believe that this was taken 13 years ago, simply great composition. The POV and sharpness is nice and the white wall in the BG looks simply wonderful.
Great work!

Have a nice Sunday.

kind regards,
Paras Bhalla

Hi Tsilla,
A lovely couple playing bagpipes in the traditional Scottish costume.
Very well lighted with a nice whitewashed wall in excellent exposure - every details in the wall can be seen.
I like the indication to The Blscksmith's Cottage.
Nicely presented with an accompanying informative note!
Regards,

Francis Xavier
