Youngest son Michael, now he is 20 has decided on rock climbing as a hobby, a bit concerning as he intends to climb the old man of hoy. Here he is getting in a little practice at St Andrews. This is a rock formation along the west beach.

Hi Peter,

Good luck for him since I know the Old Man of Hoy is not at all an easy task...
Great image. Nice colours, wonderful textures and indeed a strong feeling of man defying nature.

very well done!

take care, Stef :))

nice shot peter
good composition.

An interesting photo. I posted a rockclimbing photo and I suspect it did'nt gather a lot of interest.

Technically there is'nt a lot wrong with the picture. Exposure and detail is good, although his one leg and arm seem slightly overexposed.

Creatively nothing wrong either, although I'm left with a feeling that something is lacking. Maybe cropping the picture tighter or leaving some space above his head and capturing him looking upwards, maybe including a hint of his face. Otherwise not bad.

Hi Peter,

Excellent shot and well done on the composition.
Interesting, very few are free rock climbers, most use safety cables etc.
As for the composition, the bottom left third would be the position of the climber going at the top right 2/3 thirds which would be empty. You see the direction he is heading?

Mike

GREAT shot, Peter ! doesn't he need to wear a helmet ?

Love the compo and the colors, and the fact you had a steady hand seeing your son climbing like this !

Marleen

Will pass on that thank you Peter, your son is a lot more daring than I. Great colours, good composition and well focused, TFS

Nice to know your son has taken up a new hobby, and quite a strenuous one. I hope he wears some protective stuff when he does the big climb though. The composition is okay, but wish he was off centre a bit more.

Hi Peter,

Very nice photo! And very interesting sport!
Good luck for him and tell him to be very careful. Here, you've captured him very well. Great colours and details on the rocks. Nice POV! Well done on your composition!

It really looks like a steep slope, Peter. I love the colour of that rock, and the way Michael's outfit contrasts with it. An excellent capture. TFS.
