Taken on a pilgrimage home to Scotland - and St Andrews.

This is the 17th hole on The Old Course - known as the Road Hole. Open Championships have been won and lost on this hole, it has claimed greater scalps than that of my poor friend who ended up in this spot.

From the left of the bunker stretching towards the red sandstone hotel is the 18th - and you can make out the famous Swilcan Bridge. Nicklaus, Jones, Woods - all have stood here. This is a course open to the public. The most historic course on the planet, open to all.

That is the way golf should be - no elitism, no private clubs, courses open to all who love and respect the game and its traditions.

Hi Richard, Great to see this spot through your lens. Having just seen some of the recent matches here with Tiger winning, it is good to see it without the crowds and tents and things. Ideal POV showing the club in the distance. PS Hope your pared this round!. Murray.

Hi Richard,

I also played there a few years ago - the bunker doesn't seem as deep as when they play the open.
There is not many shot you can play sitting down

Played this on 3 occasions. Got 2 pars & a bogey!!!!!Never visited this bunker (one of the few!!)

Always nice to see St Andrews
