Urquhart Castle, a dramatic attraction which overlooks the water of Loch Ness, is surrounded by some of Scotland's most stunning Highland scenery, Once one of Scotland's largest castles, Urquhart has a fascinating history

Visitors to the castle can see the five-storey Grant Tower, which once provided accommodation for the lords and their families. The tower gives magnificent views of Loch Ness.

There are also remains of kitchens, the gatehouse, cellars and other buildings which provided for the lord's comforts and protection.

Urquhart Castle has a long and bloody history stretching back to the 13th centruy when the area was granted to the powerful Durward family.

Following Edward I's invasion, it fell into English hands and was then reclaimed and lost again.

The castle figured in the Scottish struggle for independence and came under the control of Robert the Bruce after he became King of Scots.

In the 15th and 16th centuries, the castle and glen were frequently raided from the west by the ambitious Macdonald Lords of the Isles.

Hi Robin,

Agree with Aga: great shot. The lighting is good. There's a kind of mystic sphere on the water i just can't get my finger on; is the lighting or indeed some fog? Frame is good as well.

Regards,
Edwin

Hi Robin,

Really nice soft light, the foreground slightly darker then gradually brightening as you move into the scene works really well. This would be a nice poster for the Highland tourist board.

Nicely composed image Robin, I've never seen the castle from this POV.
You've made very good use of the light which gives some interesting tones to the scene.

Well done!

Gary

That's great shot Robin, the composition is really good, sharp and the colours are very nice.

Fantastic composed photograph with brilliant colours. A lovely posting; well done!
Greetings from Holland,
Adri

interesting place, nice framing but IMO you could improve the perspective by trying another POV,
the top of the ruins are strangely dark

Hello, Robin.

A very nice classical picture of this famous castle and a very interesting and comprehensive note to go with it.

Very well exposed and a fabulous sky too. I like the frame as well.

Kind Regards,

John.
