Dryburgh Abbey, near Dryburgh on the banks of the River Tweed, Scotland, was nominally founded on 10 November (Martinmas) 1150 in an agreement between Hugh de Morville, Lord of Lauderdale and Constable of Scotland, and the Premonstratensian canons regular from Alnwick Abbey in Northumberland.[1] The arrival of the canons along with their first abbot, Roger, took place on 13 December 1152.[2]

It was burned by English troops in 1322, after which it was restored only to be again burned by Richard II in 1385, but it flourished in the fifteenth century. It was finally destroyed in 1544, briefly to survive until the Scottish Reformation, when it was given to the Earl of Mar by James VI of Scotland.

The 12th Earl of Buchan bought the land in 1786. Sir Walter Scott and Douglas Haig are buried in its grounds.

Another shot from my day out on sunday in this shot is part of the Dryburgh Abbey that still stands and holds the tombs of Sir Walter Scott his wife and his son. In an adjoining area lies the bodies of that Douglas Haig.

I have not changed anything as I wanted to show the buildings as they are I hope that you like it.

Jon - I really like this shot! Looks like you and Bryan had a good day out!

The PP has worked really worked here, the colours are fab, and the ruined buildings are really atmospheric!

TFS, Cerys

Excellent pov. The stone work is nicely coloured. Some of it looks salmon pink. Rich heritage of ancient buildings in the UK but Oh it could have been so much richer without all that destruction. Same is true in Barrow In Furness where the Furness Abbey was destroyed by Cromwell.
Good job in what was probably low light conditions?
Warm regards
David

Hi Jon, I don't think I have seen your photos before... and you do have some interesting English views.
I visited Dryburgh Abbey on a coach trip from London to Edinburgh and back in 1999. What history this place has. I don't remember the brickwork looking so pink though.
I loved looking at the many historical places and ruins.
Cheers
Janice

Good composition and some really interesting architecture / ruins. Focus seems a little soft, but I'm not sure if this isn't a result of the HDR process you've used, which has created some good colours (and doesn't have that normal HDR "computer generated" look to it).

Hi Jon,

Way nice view of this abbey. I must visit the UK again! Great post-processing, I'm glad it doesn't have too much of the HDR effect! I like this one a lot.

Thank for sharing!
