The purple thistle, the national emblem of Scotland. It was adopted as such during the rein of Alexander III (1249 -1286). Legend has it that an Army of King Haakon of Norway, intent on conquering the Scots landed at the Coast of Largs at night to surprise the sleeping Scottish Clansmen. In order to appraoch quietly they removed their footwear. However they came across a patch of these pricky flowers and shouted out in pain, alerting the Scots, who won the day.
The photograph was taken in the Scottish Borders in the Summer. |

Hello Lisa,
Well composed and lovely landscape!
I like this natural and peaceful atomospher between forward purple thistle and continuous grass & blue sky with cloud of background.
And, it is so good that the ratio of the area of forward, the grass, and sky are divided into 1/3.
If i say the desire, it's more better to add color contrast a bit in entire image because it seems plat a bit, i think.
I tried a workshop to do it.
I don't know whether you like it or not, because it is my taste, i hope that you don't mind.
Regards,
mikio

Hi, Lisa.
I like this one and I like your note also - it is very informative and interesting. This picture is certainly worth more than a measly deux points, so I'm going to remedy that. I love the way the thistle flowers look so sharp and clear and prickly against the sky and that nicely out-of-focus field.
Well done.
Best Wishes,
John.
Hi Lisa,
Nice landscape, excellent capture. TFS
