Hi Derek,
A moment well captured. These birds are quite difficult as you say- and have done a great job with this. I love the lighting on the birds face with such nice details and wings spread. My congratulations on this. TFS Julie

Hi, Derek,
I LOVE photos of wading birds and this is awesome. The way you've caught it with wings outstretched, the way it stands out from the BG and the colors, the lighting, the excellent detail. That must be sand, but it looks like snow and a wintry background. Great composition with the bird off centered and the frame looks so good with the matching color. That is SUCH a cool shot! Many thanks and kindest regards,
Shelly

Hi Derek,
Beautiful brightness, colours and lighting! Great job beacause snow easly gets over exposed. Very good composition and sharpness. Perfect timing!
TFS Greetings Simone
Hi Derek,
I really like the moment, you have captured with this Heron, with its wing spread out, makes for a far more interesting image than if it was just still & in a posing mood. You certainly caught it's details & colour.I like the sharpness too,my only negative is the backgound with the dark spot behind it's wing,& I thought perhaps a tighter crop might improve the composition? Have done a WS to show what I mean, hope you don't mind?
regards
Ron

Hi Derek,
I agree, they are hard to get close enough to for a shot like this. I like the action you've captured/frozen with the selected shutter speed. The blurring of the background nicely isolates the bird and there's plenty of negative space in front of the bird for him to move into. I like Ronald's suggestion to remove the dark are behind him. TFS

Bonjour Derek.
Urs
