Decided to go back to my roots today, mainly as a suggestion by Gordon Seales. Got an old Nikon FM (circa 1979)out of the cupboard, stuck a film in it (which I just about remembered how to do)and went out and took some shots.

Not a bad day today, but it does concentrate the mind when you have only 36 shots to play with. Primarily I wanted to test the camera and secondly to see if I could still get results.

Here is shot of an avenue of poplars taken near to the race course at Kelso.

Must admit i'm pretty impressed with the FM, not sure about my scanner, but here is the result.

Hi Peter,
I love roads like these. The colors of the leafs are wonderful and the light is very good. It could have easily be somewhere here in the Netherlands. I couldn't resist making a workshop. Hope you like it.
Regards,
Paul

Fine shot, Peter.
Incidentally, what film did you use?
Steve

nice for an old camera and scanned. Interesting depth with the road going further and further away. Nice autumn feeling.

Funny to use an older camera, a VERY old camera ! ! The view and quality however, is very nice, Peter, great perspective too !

Hi Peter,
Nice shot. That tree lined road looks romantic with the yellow of the leaves.
Well seen.
Richard

Hello Peter,
I returned again to your gallery to see what's new and....what can I say except that great minds think the same? I like your composition and the image conveys the feeling of the approaching autumn.
Regards,

Shelly:))

Well Peter, I've always believed its the eye behind the camera that counts. You have a great eye, and this is an example of your abilities, not the camera's. Beautiful colours and composition, a great shot. Sam...
P.S. As for Kelso, I must go there one day to tour and trace my ancestorial heritage.

A good exercise Peter, it must have been strange being restricted in quantity but the quality is definitely there. Good sharp colourful shot. TFS, Paul.

WONDERFUL, is this the turning point? So many are reinvesting or reinstalling their filmcamera's!!! I am still convinced that BOTH have their place in this day and age. Going back to the roots indeed is all about 'focusing' MORE.

Hi Peter

Superb use of diminishing linear perspective / vanishing point, with marvellous color from the autumn foliage. tfs.

Really nice Peter, I'm not sure what you did in ps but it may have a little too much sharpening applied or is that an effect?

I love your rows of poplars Peter. Good compo looking down the road, well done.

I am happy to see you a 35mm camera. Nikon is a very good one. You have 36 shots on the film. A very nice photo you are showing to us. Very good perspective in it. I like it a lot.
Best regards
Guy

Beautiful result Peter! The composition is great, and I particularly like the framing / highlighting effects that the greens of the grass have throughout the photo.

Great shot Peter, lovely perspective, nice Autumn colors and great DOF. I think you and your trusty FM did a great job!
Vassilis

very nice shot peter :)
the composition is very well done, reminds me of a book cover i've seen...:)

good graphism to lead the eye

i'm doing the same with my FM3a :) with a film camera, it makes me think though the shot before i press the shutter, with digital we tend to shoot first and think later :P

A very good composition (and senior capture): a good film camera is always a pleasure...

Hi Peter,
Great perspective! Lovely colours and very nice image. Old cameras have something special I may say ;)

Well done!

take care, Stef :))

Very beautiful shot, Peter. I like the PP, good work.
Nice colors and lighting.
It would have been a good idea to take the same avenue, at the same point of vue with a digital camera, just for comparison between and «old» camera and a DC. It's just an idea.
I like the perspective too. What a nice place for biking. Congratulations and TFS.

grand job of perspective,
Christine.

Great Shot Peter... A camera is as good as the person who holds it.. Guess that cant be more true :D

TFS,
karthik

That's a magical photo Peter!
The colours are amazing. It's like a painting...
And considering the old camera you used, you have an excellent result.
Well done!

Great D.O.F here the eye is pulled into the shot here,, but the crop has added to this by giving a real feeling of height in the trees you really have turned a 2 dimentional media into a proper 3d view. Really effective, I must try this . thanks
Andy

Hi Peter,
Looks like you've still got the touch!! :) I absolutely love this shot. I've always wanted to capture a scene like this, but can't find a nice tree lined lane..... :( Thanks for sharing your talent!
Cheers,
Mo

Peter, this is an excellent shot, you make me feel guilty about my 1979 Pentax K1000 gathering dust in a cupboard, I really must dig it out and use it again. But, must get a scanner first. The Poplars shot could have been any country road in France, I did not realise that you had these sort of roads in Scotland.

Best regards,

Les
