[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Took a trip to Talla Reservoir yesterday as it was a very nice sunny day. The sun was quite harsh so I never took any from the top looking down the valley.
Took this one of the pump house, used a polarizer and two ND filters to give me a long exposure (10 seconds) to get the reflection in the water and remove the slight ripples.

Using Paint Shop Pro X2
Resized.
Removed a few dust spots from the sky.
Sharpened.
Added a border.

Hello, Derek -
Extremely beautiful image - the 10-second exposure time made the water and reflection wonderfully smooth with a dream-like quality. Fine composition with great balance; warm colors; very sharp details despite the long exposure time. Very nice work.

very nice short and beautiful reflection in water and the color is just perfect Weldon

Hi derek,

Great work.

Best regards,
Alex

Wow! It's a beauty Derek! The colors are so sharp and so vivid, and that glassy water and reflections ...beautiful! Love the composition too.

Hello Derek,

Excellent reflection and color your landscape.
Great work, my friend.
Good composition and wonderfull shot.
Have a good sunday.

Beautiful colours and textures and sharpness in this - although (maybe it's my monitor?) I can see compression lines in the sky's gradient, quite clearly.

Composition is very good.

Hello, Derek.

This is a fabulous picture from one of my favourite haunts. I was actually out in my little old Austin Ten (that picture was taken at Talla) for a drive yesterday afternoon and had half a mind to take a trip to Talla - I might have bumped into you there - but I went elsewhere.

This picture excels any that I have taken from this spot. I have put some on TE as well as here. This looks as though it was taken from just within the gates which lead to the northwest end of the reservoir (I saw a couple of weeks ago that the boats have now gone) and it is very pleasing indeed. You had a beautiful clear and windless day for this shot. The reflections are lovely and the colours well, but not overly, saturated.

As an aside, sensor dust really can be a problem. I'm not sure if the Nikon D700 has the new fancy dust-clearing gizmos inside it but my Canon 20D doesn't. Dust is something which seems to become much more apparent at very small apertures as here (f/22). Occasionally, I take a shot in the house of a plain white wall at f/22 or f/32 to see all the blobs on the sensor. You have done a good job here cloning out any dust spots but there is, unfortunately, just at the very top right, a hint of a cloning circle: hardly visible but, when you mentioned dust spots, I just had to look closely!

Other than that, a perfect picture though, if I were to be really picky, the right side of the pumping station looks just a little overexposed.

You see, the better the pictures you present, the more critical people will be. Nonetheless, I should have been very proud to have produced a picture anywhere near this quality.

Excellent!

Kind Regards,

John.
