| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
| These are four of the Calanais Stones. They are the west row. At the equinoxes the sunset follows the line very closely. The stones were quarried and erected between 2900 and 2600 B.C.E. The site was ransacked around 1800 B.C.E. and was eventually covered with blanket peat up to a meter deep. They were uncovered in 1857 when the local landlord had the peat removed. The stones are Lewisian Gneiss. There is an interesting website that has a map and panoramic pictures tied to the map. http://www.ferncase.com/calanais/pages/about.html |

I really like the panoramic type cropping here, it accents the stones well. I think the time of day, light and the strong shadows are very nice as well, as is the bright green forground. Well done.
