Just to prove to Brian (Trampas) that he's not the only one who can post pictures in black & white or sepia.

A picture of an old codger, and a hoarder at that, fitting new tyres to his puddle-jumper.

Shot in RAW (in colour!) and converted and edited in PSE6.

All comments/critiques/advice welcome!

hi john.
nice try.
could do better. :)

only joking.
i would love to get near that car with my camera.
you have captured the moment very well indeed.
the smoothness of the tones and contrasts has been handled nicely
i am always amazed what b/w can do to an image.

ps.
i posted a colour pic of the roof tiles in the ws of that pic. just for you.

Hello John,

I never thought that I'd see a garage as untidy as my own!

Does the fact that a tripod was used, give us a clue to the identity of the old codger, who until now has only featured in more youthful shots?

This is a fine picture - the subtleties of the shadows and reflections on the old Austin are excellent, and black and white is in entirely in keeping with the age of the two fine subjects.

The composition as regards the car is great - the oblique view shows her at her best, as she tries to appear in the best light among the clutter.

I suppose pit stops to change tyres here are measured in years rather than seconds!

A fine photograph.

Regards,

Peter.

Stunning shot John! I'll post my "parady" of Brian tomorrow! This is awesome, almost like a Saturday Evening Post shot! Excellent tones and details!

Hi John,
It is a beautiful scene well captured! I am amazed by the clarity and the fluidity of tones of this photo!
Congratulations for this conversion keeping just a suble tint of sepia! Great work and classy presentation! Annie

:)

John Hi:
Wonderful sepia presentation, very sharp and so very much to see in the gentleman's shop. Congratulations, very well done.

Ahhh John,
My first car was a 1938 Austin 10, I know this is older, but what memories.
Yes, it is a very good black and white image, full tonal range, and beautiful detail in the shadows, well done.
Pete.

Great shot John, a friend of mine in the 1960's had an almost identical car, an Austin 10 from 1938. He had an oil leak on the rear main bearing which caused the clutch to slip, there was a hole on the bell housing that he used to squirt carbon tetrachoride into from one of the old fire extinguishers to keep it going for another few miles......! I believe this is also a 10?
Best regards,
Les

you're not an old codger yet pops!
nice to see the austin getting some TLC

Hi John
Or old codger, just as Trampas finds one on E-Bay you lose yours, can lend you one but it only works with old fashioned film cameras!!!
Yes its cluttered looking but it fits with the overall image
Great shot nice tone and detail should try losing the colour button more often
