having a bit of fun today. i was trying out my new ball head on my tripod and decided to do some still life.
the NCC 1701 is mine. it stands next to a model of the NCC 1701D and a shuttlecraft and a runabout.
before you say it....
YES, i'm a sad old man.

the image of the ship is a 3 image hdr. i shot it in my dining room using tungsten lighting.

the 'galaxy' is a pic of a frozen pond that i took earlier this year. i converted it to bw.

i placed the pond pic over the ship and then used the eraser tool to take away the parts of the pond that were on top of the ship. as they were 2 separate layers made it easier.
flattened and saved as a jpeg. sharpened, framed and resized.

it's not perfect but i had some fun learning new techniques.

Mr Spock, she's about to blow apart, she can't take much more! Love your pp work here Beetle, so different for you. Did you get this for your birthday? A nice toy for you! Wonderful work on this. Nice to know both images are yours and not some CG imitation! Good job!

Hi Brian,
Its pretty perfect to me. I really like what you did hear. The HDR on the ship is great and brought out the colors most beautifully. I am particular keen on your space. The ice certainly does look like a galaxy and has a kind of depth to it.
Maybe next time you could use a mask and paint with a brush instead of using the eraser tool. This allows for much easier corrections and fine tuning.

Niek

Haha nice experiment - I love the innovation you've shown to achieve this effect, and not an unreasonable one either!

'Sad old man'? Let's not forget that Star Trek has influenced much in our life, from being the seed of ideas that were turned into real technologies, to challenging the norms of its time - what other American TV show dared to cast a black woman, a Japanese man, and a Russian who was not a bad guy!

A nice tribute to the Enterprise!

Hi Brian,

Nice to see you are putting the new ball head to good use, BUT I am still sending the white coats round. Nice idea it works very well, really good idea with the frozen pond, I think the bottom line is if you are a bloke and were not into star trek their was something very wrong.

Well sad old man or not you get 2 thumbs up from me, this is really good PP work, its just like a shot from the original series, very nicely done.

The original Star Trek :) love it.. apart from the intense 'galaxy' in the background, it is excellent, reducing the number of stars would have emphasized the starship better.. thanks

i agree it is not perfect but i am glad you had fun experimenting and i am envious of your model of the original enterprise. did you see the latest movie i can't wait to get the dvd out soon. another sad trekkie tfs

Excellent go at PP Brian - although the galaxy behind looks as if 'she cannae take it' and is breaking up :-) All part of the effectiveness!!

Nice use of the layers and more accurate work with the eraser than I can manage..

Good idea...... Man I love Star Trek Original, Next Generation but not Voyager...

guarda Brian che questa è fantastica!
hai una fantasia degna del più mink dei mink!
fantastica immagine da star trek!
incredibile effetto dello sfondo
sei un grande!
