[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another from the Sanctuary event in Cardiff. This week in the UK is Refugee Week. Today 20.06.2007 is World Refugee Day.

The protection of 20.8 million uprooted people is the core mandate of UNHCR. The agency does this in several ways. Using the 1951 Geneva Refugee Convention as its major tool, it ensures the basic human rights of vulnerable persons and that refugees will not be returned involuntarily to a country where they face persecution. Longer term, the organization helps civilians repatriate to their homeland, integrate in countries of asylum or resettle in third countries. Using a world wide field network, it also seeks to provide at least a minimum of shelter, food, water and medical care in the immediate aftermath of any refugee exodus.

Magnificent. A bit of a close crop, but it works for me. But, it is a pic with a meaning and a great feel to it.

Great capture of this unifying moment Chris. Excellent point of view from behind the couple to show their different modes of dress and adornment, all the while embracing and enjoying each other's company in peace. Really good vertical framing and cropping that creates a symmetry (which lends to the message or theme) and lots of balance. Excellent clarity and detail and good use of natural lighting. I like how you framed this also, with a bit more negative space at the bottom edge rather than the top, because it gets the viewer to focus on their unity or closeness rather than what they might be looking at ahead of them. The colors are ok but I think you could add a bit more contrast or make the tones richer by adding a little bit more darkness to the darkest tones with levels. Otherwise a great shot with a good idea, and that woman has awesome hair! This could be good to add to a "Friendship/Peace" theme ;) TFS!

Hi Chris,
Excellent "make love no war" picture, well seen nice captured, only a pity the left side of the man (?) is çut off'.

Hi Chris, I want to say how I feel looking at this picture, but here my english is not sufficient - it's something like -because you see them at their backs, they seem more like on an isolated island and give each other support --do I make any sense?
Okay then , it's a really lovely picture; of course I would have framed it haha, but that is just me having fun.
