[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I thought this might be fitting for a 100th post. Another photographer - a twitcher with a much, much bigger lens than I have - it made me feel somewhat inadequate!!
He was standing in this spot for hours obviously waiting anf then there was a commotion on the other side of the mountain where there were some other birdwatchers. I think he though he was missing out!

“Twitching" is a British term used to mean "the pursuit of a previously located rare bird". The term is said to come from the frenzy that descends on some when they receive news of a rare bird. The term may derive from one of its first proponents, who used to arrive on his motorbike in freezing weather in the early 1960s, still "twitching" from the cold. The act of the pursuit itself is referred to as a "twitch" or a "chase".
The most popular twitches in the UK have drawn crowds of up to 5,000 people at any one time (Golden-winged Warbler in Kent). In the United Kingdom there exists a particular twitchers' vocabulary which is surprisingly well-developed and potentially confusing for the uninitiated. In the UK for example, "dipping" is the act of missing the rare bird you tried to see, "gripped off" is how you feel if other twitchers see the bird but you didn't, "suppression" is the act of concealing news of a rare bird from twitchers, and a "dude" is someone who doesn't know much about rare birds. Twitchers often have mobile phones and, especially in Europe, pagers to keep constantly informed of rare bird sightings and weather.

hello Lesley,
I like your shot and smiled at your note. He has certainly got a big one, hasn't he? I wonder if it is like men with big car exhausts? Do they really need them ? The camo gear makes it look like military operation, especially with that big gun!
regards
Bev

Hi Lesley, congratulations your 100th post.

I really like the colours in this picture, the camouflaged look is highlighted brilliantly by the dof. Well done. :)

Wow Lesley! Those notes and picture are very interesting! I have seen people here too with those kind of big zoom watching owls in a specific place. I don't have that kind of zoom and when I photograph, I don't wear that kind of suit (maybe it could helped though :) This is a nice picture of a passionate person and I congratulate you for this 100th post! This is well done and much interesting!
