Remember me? Well actually it's a Forget-me-not :) This is another photograph in my series of spring wildflower images of the UK, and yet another taken in our back garden! This little beauty is a Common Forget-me-not (Myosotis arvensis).

The Common Forget-me-not is a member of the Borage family (Boraginaceae) and favours shady locations on disturbed ground. As you can see they have hairy leaves! This species is either annual (grows fresh from seed each year), or biennial (takes two years to grow from seed). This particular specimen was about 5cm (2in) high in total.

Post process: Cropped slightly. Image size/Bicubic. NewLayerViaCopy. LABcolor. USM on Brightness (5%, 20px, 0. 20%, 1.2px, 0. 10%, 0.8px, 0). Sharpen Edges at 50%. Wide soft edged eraser (50%) to roughly knock out areas I didn't want sharpened. Flatten image. Convert back to RGB. SaveAs JPEG/11 quality.

Flash/exposure info: Canon Macrolite MT-24EX, E-TTL, +1.5 FEC, even balanced. Sync as shutter speed. Exposure set to Manual and guesstimated to balance flash with background. Spot on first try :)

I'm not generally a flower person, but your flower shots are unbelievable. Every time I open your thumbnail it's as if the flower were jumping out at me in 3D. Stunning. Thanks for the detailed post-process explanation.

Very nicely done and great composition.
Good detail of the hairs on the leaves too.
Very well done.Great!

A very beautiful shot, Adrian. The colours are wonderful and I especially like the little white stars in the centres. Excellent detail and good DOF too. Well done.

Another nice play on words there. I wonder if you can keep that up!
The wonderful dof and the green background have been used very well here, and I am amazed at the sharpness and details of your subject. Do those leaves really have fuzzy hair? Your technical details are nice but about two lightyears ahead of me.

There is something special about "Forget-me-not". Think it's a combination of there tiny size and the name. AI agree with Adam, your flowers seem to be jumping of the screen Adrain. Great DoF and good guess with the flash. Like your title too :)

The depth of field here works so nicely. Cute little flowers, eh? Your use of light is especially nice--gentle, even and diffused.

Lovely composition and DOF. If you're not a botanist, you could be! Thanks for enlightening me about my hyacith shot.

good DOF and exposure. good as a post card.

Outstanding work, both on the way you took the photo, and the post processing. This is one of my favourite flowers in the spring. Thanks for the nice memories of a lovely english flower.
