No bikes today (maybe more tomorrow-didn't want to bore you), I've gone back to my London photos and found this one, taken late afternoon during our second day there. After glorious weather our first day, the second day turned cold, grey and windy. We set out to explore the city anyway, riding buses, double decker by preference, photographing the city and its people at every chance. We noticed that one of the things that London does for its tourists who are not used to the direction of traffic is to paint the direction you should look when you step off the curb on the street. Everyone at this street corner, even the people not in the crosswalk, is complying with that direction. Perhaps there's something or someone else to the left to draw their attention...

Kit suggested that this might be better in B&W, so I did the conversion as a WS. Please take a look and tell me which one you like better.

Very nicely done, Lois, and good observation of a daily life scene. I always find these signs on the road to be very helpful on the first few days in London before you get used to looking the right way. I really like it that you have captured the man while he was looking left and you even got one of those famous taxicab in the image. Well done!

Sorry, my bag is empty!

Hee hee, I was there just last week, but never had much chance to take any pictures during the day. You captured very well the essence of this wonderful city. Nice one!

Hi Lois, great, dynamic street candid you have captured here! I like the dark tones of the coats, and the black cab nicely contrasting with the overall "grey" of London. Perfect inclusion of the "look left" sign on the ground as everyone's looking that way! Excellent job, and a little dangerous if I may add...glad you got the shot, and got out of the middle of the street! TFS, Sam :)

This looks very "London" to me, although I've never been there. Nice activity and very well-composed, Lois. The cab is particularly interesting!

Gayle :)

Hi Lois- I really enjoy daily life scenes-it gives us a rare glimpse into other worlds. This shot give us so much to take in and appreciate from the classic looking cab, the elegant street lamps and the classic buildings! Very nice work! TFS!

Best wishes,
Steve

Your ability to see details and to show them in such a brilliant manner is amazing!
This one made me laugh.
You are walking around with your eyes wide opened!
And what would it be if he were looking on the right! I think it would be even better! Speaking about listening to different rules or not. same as paying attention on that "my girl" or not!
buy the way...I see you still enjoy making links in your notes! :)

Great capture, Lois !!!
Very nice photo.

tfs and have a great weekend,
v

This is SO 'The City'. Makes me miss not being there (is that nonsense words?).
Anyway, the very first thing at hit me was the distant simliarity with the album cover for the Beatles' ABBEY ROAD. Nothing like it but that's where my mind went. Just thought you'd like to know.
The LOOK LEFT sign on the road is well-placed. The City Gent (No bowler hat and umbrella but the lap=top is probably the modern version) striding scross the road, dutifully looking left, is a 'buster' element and this shot would be NOTHING without him.
Great inclusion of the London Cab, an element that lifts this even higher up the Wow scale.
I guess that they are either obeying the instruction to look left or that girl in the distance has attracted everyone's attention.
Lovely clean and classically London buildings and the whole thing comes together in such a brilliant fashion that I award you this month's FLOROSCAR and a full 10/10.
Just out of interest, my bet is that this would be perhaps one point higher in a good BW rendering ...

Hi Lois...
It's a beautiful "daily life" photograph and wonderful details, my friend... Also very humorous too... If written look left on the road, you must look left... If written look up then, you must look up...
TFS...
Stay well..
Salim.
