Cannington Viaduct, Uplyme, East Devon (Dorset Borders).
A disused 10 arch viaduct built circa 1903.
It is said to be the first viaduct built from concrete by a man called ‘Concrete Bob’ McAlpine.
Unfortunately he didn’t get the foundations right so a reinforcing brick infill was needed for one arch.
It is the second highest of its type in England (although I don’t actually know where the highest is).
Approx 15 years ago it was up for sale for a ’staggering’ £1 – the catch, you have to maintain it!
We spent the whole of last week a few hundred yards from this site.
This was taken at midday, and as you can see there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Not the best conditions, but it was like it all week so I didn’t have any other choice.
Thanks for taking the time to look. |

Hi Julia,
Nice b/w shot with the viaduct standing out well. Horizon is on thirds and the focal point is off center too. Nice note as well.
Well done,
Jako
PS- in about a months time I will begin my employment with the company you mentioned- Sir Robert McAlpine ltd. :)
