The Spinnaker Tower
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
A picture of the Spinnaker Tower at Portsmouth, from the Gosport marina. This was taken during very wet and windy conditions, with storms blowing in from the English Channel and Solent, just making it a nightmare to keep my camera and tripod steady to get a good shot.
This is the best on from the evening, with the help of some PP work.
The actual Spinnaker Tower dominates the landscape of Portsmouth Harbour. Standing at just over 170m tall and having 3 observation platforms open to the public, it has become a very popular tourist attraction in Portsmouth. This tower is also the tallest structure outside of London open to the public in the UK.
A suprise also awaited me with the tower. I have seen a few pictures on the internet with the tower lit up in full blue lights, but whilst I spent over an hour taking pictures, the tower does change colour over the course of an hour, giving the effect of a giant clock in Portsmouth's harbour. Starting off in full blue colour, the lights slowly change to red over the course of the hour. :o) More interesting than the London Eye!!
PP Work in Photoshop CS2:
Created copy layers of the tower and reflection in the water. Feathered 20 pixels for each layer.
Desaturated the main background.
Flattened the image |

Hi Daniel,
Love this picture its fab,I have only seen the tower during the day and from the air when ever I fly over. I used to live in Pompey and all my friends have been moaning about there rates going up to pay for it.I have not been home for some time but when I do get back I will deff go to the top. I think its a surperb bit of Architecture although the water arch sounded good idea. Brilliant work and TFS and making me feel home sick :-)
great structure! and you have certainly done a fantastic job doing such a brilliant night capture. well done daniel.
