[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Taken on my trip back to Scotland over Christmas, this skeletal oak stands in a park a few minutes from my mother's house. Peebles is a small Scottish Borders town, 20 miles south of Edinburgh.

Much of my childhood was spent in its shadows - school rugby lessons were held on these fields. Many a morning like this - cold, wet and dark - I would be beaten up in the name of sports! Builds character, apparently. Ah, the benefits of a Scottish education... "If it disnae hurt ye, it's naw daein ye ony guid, son..."

At weekends I would meet my friends in this same park for football games or just general play. I find it does me good on trips home to retrace my childhood steps, meet old friends and not to forget where I came from. Roots are important - for people as well as for trees such as this. We must never forget what made us.

Hi Richard. Very striking and effective shot of the tracery of this big oak. Excellent POV and clarity. All the best for 2007. Murray.

Another fantastic shot richard! lovr the colours tone and background detail. Great crop

well done
tfs

Richard,
This is an incredible image. I think the composition is perfect. The hills and the building give this an eerie feel along with the morning fog. It would be cool to ghost a childhood rugby image into this like a double exposure. I agree with your statement " We must never forget what made us." It's a geat statement and right along the lines of my thinking. The photo is very well presented here. I plan to make it one of my Favs!
Scott

good to see you back richard :)
the comp and mood is beautiful here
perfect in B/W

the tones and mist in the background is superb
the only i might change is may be a slight crop around the bottom to remove a little more space and bring the tree closer :)
but this still looks great :)
