Another shot here from a recent visit to Manchester airport, now we don't normaly see helicopters here on a regular basis but we were tracking this one over the radio scanner for quite some time. At first we thought it had a problem as its pilot was requesting multiple location points and being told to maneuvre by air traffic control. It turns out however (we think) that this may have been a few aeriel photographers taking some snaps from different locations.
This had to be a quick shot here as this thing came down at quite a speed. I'm sure the pilot was putting on a bit of a show for the folks in the viewing galleries as the next time he took off, I was amazed at the sideways angle the chopper was leant at. If I ever see this chopper again I'll make sure Im ready with my finger on the button :)

If you look closely you can see the snow on the hills in the background, Yes it was freezing and yes I couldn't wait to get back to the car for a coffee :)

PP = a little cropping to remove an ugly bit of tarmac at the bottom.
Levels and curves.
Gradient adjustment and overlay filter applied to the sky as it was washed out and blended together with the snowy hills.

Very good shot of the helicopter in action. I like the blurred background.
Glad you warmed up after taking this shot. Today here it's -19c.

Hi John,

You may have froze but you sure took a clear & sharp photo of the chopper! I like the panning as it creates a sense of movement/flight!

Well done
Constantinos

You need some of our sun and humidity to keep you warm John...:-)

Excellent photo of the Helicopter, one has to be quick with these things..they dont muck around.. well captured, and nice BG.

Cheers
Kiwi Dawn.

Hi John,
Very nice freeze action shot! Helicopter is pin sharp, almost a 3D effect against the bg. Very good DOF and well exposed.

Vassilis

Even though a fast shutter speed was chosen (rotors frozen) the background is blurred enough to suggest movement. Very sharp and interesting subject. Excellent PP, adding interest to the sky and background.

Well done, Regards, Roger

Hi John, great capture. Well composed, good detail and colour. Lovely blurred backround and as I sit here in shorts and T shirt with a forecast of about 28C, my sympathy :). TFS,
Dave

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Maritime I’. All well here ta, kids are back at school now after the summer holidays so the household returns to semi normal. Hope all is well with you.

Well here he is again the Magnificent Orbiter!
Hello John , it's good to see you back!
Just my kind of picture here. Very interesting with the good us of DOF to enhance the main subject. I note with interest, your info regarding the use of the Graduated Filter on the sky. It reminds me that the time is overdue when I should look more into aquiring PP skills myself. This picture also reminds me that I should visit the airport again soon.
Best wishes
Bill

Hi John,
A lot of speed in this shot. A pitty you didn't capture the whole chopper but I like the blurred background with the parked aircrafts.
Hans

Ok John, book me for the ride :-)
