Camelus bactrianus
Family: Camelidae
The two-humped Bactrian camel lives in the highlands of central Asia, where it feeds on prickly scrub and salty water. It is able to store water in its stomach chambers and in fat reserves in its humps.
The wild bactrian camel is critically endangered. The bactrian camel that you see in all zoo collections is a domesticated form.
These magnificent beasts can easily spit over three metres, have been known to bite, snarl and generally prefer doing things at their own pace.
Each year, in July, in Alice Springs, Australia they hold camel races.Imagine about 15 camels standing ready to start, the gun goes and they all go off, in different directions, those that move, the one thing they all have in common is the riders all hanging on for their lives.
In Knowsley Safari Park they have a good life, they stop all the cars, they are looking for free food, they do there own thing, they might move quickly or they might not. |

Hello Chris,
I hate them, once did a trip from Najran to Aby Dhabi, following the old salt trail, got bitten every day by the camels, my shoulders where black and blue, for months.
Good shot and good notes.
Regards
