My first butterfly shot and boy are they hard to get!
This was taken today in my parents garden in Holmfirth,West Yorkshire.I'm sure they know you have a camera because everytime I approached they flew away.
I think this one was tired after me chasing it about! It rested briefly on a blade of grass.
ISO level: 200

Exposure time: 1/210s

Photo cropped and background was run through neat image.

Not only are they hard to get, in my opinion, they are impossible to get. All i end up with is some blure dot with colour ;) This is very sharp with lovely details and clear colours. The structure of the wings are very well defined. So chasing is they way to do it? :)

Excellent macro shot Andy, beautiful colours, maybe 90 % turn to right, this personality. Very well done!

Well Andy, I really take my hat off to you, all your chasing around after the butterfly paid off. This is without exception a beautifully composed shot, the way his wings are folded forward looks like something out of phantom of the opera. This is a very focused and detailed shot, the colour and fine hair on his wings are fabulous.
Andy, this is really a great picture, well done and keep it up.

Lovely shot a great reward for all your hard work.

Une très belle macrophotographie Andy. De très jolies couleurs. Très bonne maîtrise photographique.
Very well done.

Hello Andy:
The quality of the colors and of the definition of the image, they make me perceive it like an elegant butterfly made with velvet. For me it is a special combination, I like the tones and the contrast, the detail of the hair, and in their hands the color seems that she has gloves, the disposition of their wings, the illumination, everything is very beautiful, I like butterflies, alone I would like to wonder: is this butterfly type common in the place? I had never done one with these beautiful colors. It is a beautiful image, I added it to my favorite ones and the topic of Butterflies thank you to share it with us. Cordial greetings. *Ninfa Urania*

Very good composition. the colors are also superb. Great texture of the butterfly.

Wow! Wonderful shot Andy. I love this photo. Very good colors and DOF. Well done.

Hi Andy. To have taken such a beautiful picture of a butterfly in the wild is an exploit very few can achieve. The pose, the colours, the details are superb. However the background somewhat distracts, especially the brown stem on the right. Wondering what cropping could do, I did just that, please see the workshop.
