Welcome John.
Beautiful rose and detail, right down to the added bug over on the right petal.
The garden and the wall are spliting the image here, I can see this really standing out more if it was against the wall background only. There would be no distraction of the line between the wall and garden then and all the attention would go to your rose. Beautiful rose and deserves all the attention of the viewer.

Hello John,
a nice & wonderful shot, TL is a great team of photographers, I began a little ago and I received a lot of useful comments and helping notes. Your shot is well focused and it is sharp, Red is a little bit too much satured, but is a particular (it is only my opinion). Shorting the time exposure would be correct it, or to decreased exposure. Good work, it is a lovely flower.

Coming to your post, you opened your account with a lovely rose. I love roses. Nice colors and the rose is really standing-out on the blurry background. Nicely done. TFS.

Hello, John!

Welcome to TL. Nice that your daughter (whose pictures are wonderful) has encouraged you to post some pictures in your own right. And wise of her too - this is a lovely shot - marred only by the slightly distracting background, but Ritz has done a fine workshop to help that and I'm sure Helen could do a lot to sort it out too.

As one about to enter my seventh decade in the not-too-distant future, let's not let these young whippersnappers take all the glory - keep on posting! I'm trying to encourage my daughters to join in!

I thought this was a cracking shot. Great one to start off your TL gallery. Super colour, I agree with others on the background issues but thats the whole point of this site, to learn stuff without realising it.

Great shot keep that camera out now and get some more.

Hi John,
Welcome to TL, nice first post, good sharpness and colour with a good DOF but IMO there seems to be too much light on the rose itslef and the background is a little distracting being split between the wall and the gravel, maybe a slightly different POV to use the gravel as a backdrop.
Tfs and I hope you enjoy the TL experience.

How nice to meet Helens Dad.
A great first posting and in my favourite colour no less!

By the way you have a great daughter - I was glad to meet het here on TL.

Hi John,

So.. Helen is the bossy type of girl eh??? hhahahaha
But.. I think if all your pictures will be the quality of this rose, she's soooo right about having you sign up.
I really love the color on this one. It's stunning!
It lacks just a little on contrast in the top of the rose, but that's just a minor thing.
Also I think the composition and the depth of field are very well done. Very nice background...
