Culloden was the final clash between the British and Scotland. It was a brutal battle and was devastating for the Scots. This cairn is in commemoration. Cairns are piles of rocks which serve primarily a function of remembrance. People going on journeys might place a stone on a cairn and hopefully return safely to retrieve it. Thus the saying, "No stone left unturned".
The day was rainy and added to the sense of sadness of this monument. I reddened the color slightly with PSP. |
