Bakewell Show 2007,#2.
The cattle were being judged for 'best of breed'.
This is a Longhorn.

history: The Longhorn originated in the Craven district of Yorkshire and was one of the most popular British cattle until about 1800.They were sturdy draught animals, gave rich milk for butter and made good beef.Shorthorns superseded them.

This show was just a few days before the Foot and Mouth alert, which now ,for the moment, means that no cattle anywhere in the country can be moved about.

Derbyshire is quite a distance from Surrey, so lets hope that we do not have a repeat of the last epidemic!

Thanks for looking.

hi Jean,
and a fine looking beast he is too (141 that is!). Nice everydy shot (well not everyday but you know what I mean). Well composed with good light. It's ages since I have been to an agricultrural although it has been a washout withe the wet weather up here anyway.
regards
Bev

Bonjour,
it's a beautiful specimen which here.
Really a good typical scene of the show, it's well shot, Jean, cheer! Even if I'm a "mouse of the cities" ;OD I like all a relationship with the life in the countryside when it still has its authenticity.
TFS.
Corinne

Hi Jean, we have just had our show here in Launceston, plenty of cattle and sheep but no horses due to the equine flu which has been sweeping Australia. Nicely composed, good colour and lovely detail. TFS,
David

Many thanks for your comment on ‘Spring has Sprung’

Nice study of not just the magnificent cow but also the judging at this show. No idea how they judge how one cow is better than another though....
Thanks for sharing
Mark
