Hi all,

This was taken today at a place known locally as Sycamore gap, for obvious reasons.

This is the location and that tree inparticular that was used for the opening scenes of Robing Hood Prince of thieves, it's located in Northumberland along the site of Hadrians Wall, which is the wall that runs past it.

Hope you like.

Great capture of the beautiful scenery - interesting sense of depth. Great composition, point of view, contrast and saturation levels, and sharpness.

This is a beautiful picture! What more can be said? Prefer to spend a minute or two looking at it rather than finding a set of superlative descriptive words.

Great shot Dean. I really love the perspective. Great composition and colours. Nice work.

Ha! Even from the thumbnail we recognised this from the Prince of Thieves film! Odds on you pictured yourself as Robin Hood when you were here... :-)

Another well-composed shot with great detail in the forground leading us up to the skyline which is nicely broken by that tree. Good shot and a scene i'm sure many will recognise.

Hello Dean!

Superb light ! Did you use a flash by anychance to get this effect ? In any case , the composition is awsome with this low POV.
Well done!
Robert

Hi Dean,

Wonderful sense of dimension from your composition. Well placed tree. There are always so evocative when they are lonely. Tremendous.

take care,

John

Hi Dean,

You've captured the essence of the Northumberland landscape really well....the gentle rolling limestone hills and sparse trees. I like the low angle close to the rocks beacuase it leads the eye up to the lovely curves of the skyline. Lovely stuff.
Best wishes,
Celina

Hi Dean.
I like the valley that leads the eye to the tree. The B&W post of this tree is good too but I like this one better. May I ask what you mean by stroke method for the framing step. Thanks in advance and TFS. K2

Hi Dean,

I'd almost think you have invested in a soft ND grad filter! :-) But I now know you haven't, since I read the note to Robert.
Yep, no need at all to explain the gap! Very nice. Perfectly balanced with the sky - and especially the nice blue tones - still very well exposed.

Greetings,
Dennis

Hi Dean,
Lovely colours, exposure and good composition.
well done mate !
Best regards, Daniel

Excellent POV. Many things of interest. The old rocks with their lichen. The strong sky behind the tree. The wall. Well done.

TFS!
Reid

Hi Dean,
A very beautiful photo where I particullary like the composition where you used the strong FG and put the tree in the top layer of the photo. Funny that a few weeks ago I came across this photo: http://www.treknature.com/gallery/Europe/United_Kingdom/photo130362.htm
Slowly the entire movie locations are shown to me.

Superb work on the exposure and lighting.
TFS,
Niek

Hello Dean, a very nice landscape with that lone tree in the perfect place ! Sharp, well exposed and a super composition. Well done,

Mario

Nice, Dean. Looks like you borrowed a page out of Annie's framing book (which, if so, is learning from a master). Anyway, very effective presentation of your subject from title, to positioning and POV within the curve of the ridge and line of the slope.

Hello Dean.

Excellent picture, nice composition and colors.

Regards.
Jose Luis.

Excellent
Sorry Dean I now noticed I have not been in here for a while..you have many stunning new shots..This I like very much!
