[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Taken on a recent trip back home to Jersey in the Channel Islands, there were a number of fisherman’s shacks on Rozel Pier; this one looked a little weathered to say the least and I'm not sure if the padlock would do any good in a strong wind.

Rozel harbour lies on Jersey's north coast and looks straight out toward the 'Les Ecrehous' reef, some 8 miles offshore. Sheltered from most wind directions the harbour became a valuable refuge for small fishing boats during the late 18th and early 19th centuries

Rozel pier was re-built in 1829 to provide shelter for the growing number of small fishing boats involved in the oyster fishing trade who were unable to fit into the, by then, very busy Gorey Harbour as the industry developed.

Due to the harbour being tidal, the fishermen who operated from this harbour went on to build 'viviers' amongst the rocks just inside the harbour in order to keep their catches fresh for market. The remains of these brick structures are still very visible today

Nice shot - effective tight crop for a pleasing composition. Great sharpness and detail of the different textures with great contrast levels and colours.

Hi Richard,

Interesting capture, good textures and detail. I like the way the door leans.

Cheers
Tom

Great capture Richard! I love the detail of this, the flaking paint, the bright saturation of the shot - and the leaning outer wall.
