Just back this morning from my Christmas break back in Scotland. I think there's a jetlag thing going on - I'm tired, but can't sleep...very annoying :-)

So done a few chores, including going through some photos. Picked this one out for posting today. It's from my home town in the Scottish Borders, about 10 minutes walk from my mothers house. This is a stretch of the River Tweed, a fairly well-known salmon river. On the morning I took this, the weather was damned cold, about -8. Went for a long exposure to try and enhance the glassy nature of the water.

Shot in RAW, jpegged, converted to b/w, cropped, resized, sharpened.

ISO 50, f22, 10 second exposure, tripod used

(ok, will try and sleep again now!)

Perfectly sharp and wonderful scene. The glassy water makes it. TFS. K2

Hi Richard,
The long exposure works well here as does the B&W, I like your POV with the river leading the eye into the shot and to the hills in the distanece.
I hope you had a good Christmas back home, though I bet your glad to be back in the warmer cimate.

Best regards to you and the family for 2008.
Andy

Hi Richard,
You'r back in Singapore again?! Hope you had a great time in Scotland. The picture you posted shows a great mood. The soft reflections are wonderful, the two tone sky too. The long exposure and large f-stop works well here. Excellent posting my friend!

I have been very much looking forward to your images from Scotland, Richard and you have not disappointed me. This is awesome. Your camera settings make it perfect. I would not have believed how beautiful a black and white of scenery could be. Stunning , and welcome home.
Warm Regards
Wanda
A safe and Happy 2008 to you and yours.

Hi Richard!
Wonderful landscape here, and I think the choise of B/W is good.
The long exosure time transforms the water into not just a mirror but in a kind of filter which gives rise to an astonishing mood.
Well done!
happy new year

Like the mood you captured Richard. The long exposure really gave the river a "flat" appearance and interesting reflection. Can really feel the cold. Love the clarity of the total image.
Happy New Year

Hi Richard, Happy new Year!!
Great image, the water looks fantastic and DOF is very good, great choice for B&W also.
Hopefully i'll get posting soon and get in contact with yourself and Scott a little more regular, but time is not on my side at the moment.

All the best Pal!!

Hi Richard,
great sharpness and a lovely composition. The B&W presentation works really well and the long exposure has really worked. Very atmospheric shot.

Cool B&W conversion. The various shapes of trees and quiet river makes this shot very attractive to the eye.

Great composition with this POV catching the curve of the river. Bravo!
