Another view of The Dookits, taken a little closer with a better view of the rocks.

We had a lot of fun here as kids, daring each other to climb higher and jump from ever more precarious perches. Funny, I never remember anyone ever getting hurt while playing here. In other stretches of the river, accidents happened, sometimes with tragic consequences. But here, despite the rocks and the childish bravado - nothing.

I like my trips back home, I think it is important to keep touch with your roots - never to forget where you came from and what shaped you. I have swam in this river, fished here, canoed here, rafted here and played with my dog here - this river was a big part of my childhood.

"The River Tweed (Uisge Thuaidh in Gaelic) (156 kilometres or 97 miles long) flows primarily through the Borders region of England and Scotland. It rises on Tweedsmuir at Tweed's Well near where the Clyde, draining northwest, and the Annan draining south also rise. "Annan, Tweed and Clyde rise oot the ae hillside" as the Border saying has it. It drains the entire Borders region. Its lower reaches mark the Scottish border with England for 27 kilometres near Berwick-upon-Tweed. The Tweed is one of the great salmon rivers of England and Scotland.

Major towns through which the Tweed flows include Peebles, Galashiels, Melrose, Kelso, Coldstream and Berwick-upon-Tweed, where it flows into the North Sea."

Excellent clear image Richard,
B/W is an odd choice, but it really works!
So much detail to see,
well done - Vincent

The composition is great, in my humble opinion. I like the play of the light on the water.
Best regards

Hi Richard,
Beautiful B&W photo,nice place.
Best regards,

Hello Richard !

Lovely note to your great B&W photo. We can certainly understand you. The beauty of these green and quiet shores are far from the turbulent city of Singapore . Despite the cold, humid and grey Scottish weather (^_^), the Celtic blood is in you forever.

I am the same in a way. When I used to work at sea, my best moment was coming back in the gGulf of Saint-Lawrence , while we could not see the shore but we could smell the green forest , the pine trees. Summer or winter , the smell is unforgettable. Very uplifting as we were approaching our home port.

On a sad note , we will have to skip a year . We won't be able to go in Europe this year. We will have to wait another year :(.

Cheers!
Robert

PS. Glad to read you met Scott ! ( at the zoo ....LOL !)

I just love these slow speed narrow aperture shots Richard , and I am working on some myself, but I can’t get them to look like these. There is a feel to these, I can’t explain that is just so.. well wonderful. Great detail and lovely composition.
Warm Regards
Wanda
My daughter is talking of going Isle of Skye in the spring, I am thinking I might tag along.

Nice shot Richard, B&W works really well and the soft effect on the water is great. Lovely evocative compostition.
Cheers, John.

I must say that this image is seriously undervalued! The textures are superb, Richard and I love how the eye is lead to the one spreading tree up on the hillside
Thanks

So you went home for Christmas. I bet the family were thrilled to see you and your little girls.
This looks so good in B & W Richard, as you have a lot of lighter areas to lighten it up. Well composed too,
Janice

Hi Richard,
Very good composition and you do cover a very large range of tones. This composition is not something that I would have chosen for a B&W format but I think this still works fine. I always add a dash of colour to my B&W pictures by tinting an edge and I think that will work fine here too.
