Here's a night shot of Keiss Castle from my recent trip to Scotland which surprise, suprise was blighted with bad weather. Nevermind, we made our way to Old Keiss Castle and with a willing volunteer and an 18 million candle power torch to paint the castle this was the result.

"Keiss Castle was originally called Raddar, a medieval fortification of which no history survives. In the late 16th or early 17th century George, Earl of Caithness founded a stone Z-plan tower house on the site. The central rectangular tower is of four storeys, with an attic, the basement is vaulted and on two angles are round towers, one being the stair tower, which supports a square caphouse. Standing against the sea cliff, erosion has collapsed the north-east angle of the tower, which contained the entrance."

Hello Paul!
At first I thought this was a "spotlight" made by the sun!
Its a fine shot, I like the contrast between the warm light at the castle and the cold blue light elsewhere.
Excellent sharpness and a good composition.
TFS!
Best regards, Jon.

Wow, a stunning capture here. Just breathtaking.

I don't know where to start or what to talk about first, all I can say is that this kind of thing is totally beyond me - the long, LONG exposure, the amazing sharpness, the beautiful soft tones of the water ...

What do you mean about the torch? Did you have somebody with a high-powered torch standing nearby, shining it at the castle?

Amazing stuff ... sorry, I'm throwing points at this, if not for your benefit, then to show gallery surfers that there's a shot and note well worth viewing, here!

Amazing blues. This is very beautiful, with the golden light on the castle. Would have personnally cropped a little to the right.
Excellent result.

Hi Paul

Another excellent offering. When I first opened the photo I thought you had captured on heck of a direct sunrise. Fantasic work with excellent use of the "super" torch. The blue and gold colors work well together and the gentle capture of the surf with the 2 minute exposure adds a nice touch.

Woow.. the COLOURS!!! I love the colours... the sky and the seas almost merge together as one! and the only thing that stand out is the castle bit, not even the little house at the back is showing up, awesome lighting, great details, textures and sharpness! Can't believe that is taken during bad weather. Now... is this a bay? and you are taking it from the other side? Or maybe you took it from the light house? Awesome shot my dear.. love it!

Cheers,
Sweety

Hi Paul

Nice example of painting with light. The warm tones cast by the torch makes a great contrast with the cool blue tones. Lovely work.

Shame about the weather :)

You mean you actually illuminated the castle. However you did it, it's a great shot. I really like the contrast between the light and darker background.
