“Porridge’s Mom”

It is finally the weekend! Today I have a few minutes to play with an image.
The first rule of animals and birds, is to focus on the eye… so to take this image, I waited, snapped, waited, snapped.. yawn.. will the eye never show? Well it doesn’t on these fellows. The wind was blowing quite ferociously so I really hoped the wind would reveal the eye. My conclusion is that to get an eye on these fellows , take a picture of the calf.
No trip to Scotland would be complete without an image of these fine animals.
*“Highland cattle (also known as Hairy Coo or Hielan Coo) are an ancient Scottish breed of beef cattle with long horns and shaggy pelts.
The breed was developed in the Scottish Highlands and western coastal regions of Scotland, and breeding stock has been exported to the rest of the world, especially Australia and North America, since the 1900s and is used as grazer in nature reserves in the Netherlands . The breed was developed from two sets of stock, one originally black, and the other reddish. Today, Highland cattle come in a wide variety of colours.”
Hope you get a smile from my hairy friend.
The image itself has nothing done to it, but croped, resized and USM. The frame was done using the overlay layer and with a 1 point brush and eraser, working slowly to bring the hairs back, then flattening when done.
Have a great weekend and thanks for helping me learn and grow.

Hi Wanda

Good use of a shallow dof with excellent fg sharpness on the animal. Good lighting, which helps to separate it from the bg. Tfs!

Hi Wanda,
I laughed so much by reading your note, thank you for this good moment. Even if we does not see the eyes (!) it's a very good capture. We sees the texture of the hair well, the details. I like the effect 3d of the photo. Thank you for this good moment my friend. Good weekend

Cette race écossaise est vraiment magnifique !
Avec ton choix d'encadrement, on peut mieux apprécier la robe de l'animal. Belle mise en valeur mon amie

Bonsoir Wanda

What a lovely hairy roastbeaf! A very good crop and depth of field. The color is perfect and you made a very artistic framing. You're right, the eye is very important when it comes to amimal photography but you have to see it. So next time, you carry a hairbrush in your camera bag.
Seriously, it is a very good shot.
Merci pour le partage
Serge

Hi Wanda,

What a lovely composition. Beautiful colors. Nicely done.

Thank You

-Behram..

Hello Wanda,

We have both posted animals today! Yours large and majestic, mine smaller and curious.

The detail of this fine animal's coat is superb! The light creates lovely tones of colour and then adds that long dark shadow from the horn.

When I read your pp notes, I realised what a long and very meticulous job you had to expose those hairs! Very well done! It was worth the effort!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Okay Wanda, then you have no reflecting eye, but you have the wind blowing through his shaggy hairdo - looks also great!
Lovely sunny windy picture and great framing.
