Caisteal Maol

Today I show you the castle we went to Scotland to find. This is for my beautiful daughter and all her patience’s in stopping frequently for my pictures and especially her patience’s with a Mom who was very nervous, at times, on the Scottish roads. Even with her truly great driving.

This is the MacKinnon Castle on the Isle of Sky.

*”According to legend, the castle of Dunakin (today known as Caisteal Maol), near Kyleakin, was built by a Norwegian princess, known as "Saucy Mary", who married Findanus the claimed ancestor of Clan Mackinnon. The princess was to have collected the tolls of ships sailing through the narrows between the castle and the mainland, though Norse ships were exempt from her toll. To ensure that her taxes were paid a chain was stretched across the kyle. On her death she was buried beneath a cairn on Beinn na Cailleach (the mountain of the old woman).”

In the ws I have put an image of the castle from the other side of the ‘Narrows” which show how difficult it was to capture this image that I took from the ferry dock you can see in the ws, using the rail as a tripod with my big lens.
Converted, added +5 saturation , ran neat image, resized, USM, framed and signed.
Ws as taken, except conversion and resize.
Thanks for helping me learn and grow.

Hi Wanda,
An excellent composition and I like the mood who arises. By seeing this structure I think of the book "The thistle and Tartan". Beautiful shot my friend and well presented. Thanks

Beautiful capture of this ruin. Not much left of it though.
Very strange to see and visit a place your ancestors lived in.
See any family ghosts?
Excellent

My family name has McKinnon all over it! This is superb Wanda! Love the details, amazing how they would just plunk a castle down on that hill! So cool to preserve this in photos forever, soon they will all be gone!

Hi Wanda
Amazing wiev, looks like a cool place to be, must be interesting, and this is one of the reasons to do photos, showing others beautiful and interesting places.

hi, v nice composition, the low clouds gives an idea of the castle on a remote mountain top

regards

Handyman's special, Wanda! A little bit of timber, some paint and it's like new again!
I love those 'hollow tooth' ruins, trying to imagine what they once looked like. Would make a lovely detail on a romantic painting......
Cheers
otto

Super POV to make the most of the ruined architecture against the sky - a very strong composition. I've created a little workshop just to put some interest into the sky (hope you don't mind!).
Thanks for sharing
Mark

Well composed and well presented. Before reading the note, I expected a ghost story! Got a different legend, but still interesting.
