Hello Everyone,

Time for another theme, already! Whereas I am normally hunting furiously for a shot to fit the theme, there is no shortage of dry stone walls and random stone wall around where I live, so it was more of a problem deciding which one to use!

This is a random stone wall. That means, the stones have not been dressed, are of varying sizes and don't fit into neat courses. This one is a wall of a very old house. The wall is about a metre thick. It was contructed by building an outer wall; then an inner wall and the centre cavity filled with rubble. There is no cavity wall in these old houses.

Just out of interest, the wheel once belonged to an old cart that was used on the farm and now provides decoration, and a talking point for the old men of the village.

Many thanks for stopping by.
I hope you found it interesting.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect og the photograph. :-)

pp slight crop, sharpened, added layer, stroked border then erased some to reveal the detail of the wall.

Hi Bev! Love the lighting and sharp contrast here. Wheels are really lovely subjects. Fine details and good exposure.
Cheers!
Freddie :)

C'est magnifique!
Le cadrage, la composition, les détails.
Cependant, je trouve qu'il y
a un peu trop de saturation au
niveau du bleu-vert. J'aurais
aimé les teintes un peu plus naturelles.
Quand même, j'adore cette photo.
Félicitations!

Beautiful Bev! Super sharp, rich colors! Love the comp on this! Amazing how good this still looks after 400 years! If only I looked as good!

I think these types of walls would be harder to build - because the rocks look randomly placed, yet they really are placed carefully to NOT make a patten. A metre thick - that must help in the cold weather!
The wheel gives us an iteresting point too.
Good one Bev

Hi Beverley,
This is a very nice composition! I like the textures on the bricks and their warm colors. The wheel is a good addition with its complementary colors! Very well done! Annie

Aha, but you also found yourself a nice old wheel.

Hi Bev,

I have been wondering why I am so attracted to bricks (and stone-walls), but it clicked. My grandfather (before I was born) had a business selling building materials and he loved and always showed me the beauty of stone, bricks and tiles - that must be it.

A meter thick must give the perfect isolation then - TFS

I like the fresh green setting off well against the wall.

Hi Beverley, really nice composition with the wheel centered at the bottom and the nice textures of the wall. a minor detail is the wheel cut off imho, so i tried a ws on it and in the same spirit of what you did by erasing the frame on the stones i added the rest of the wheel into the frame as well.

Hard to heat but lovely in the Summer I would imagine Bev. An excellent submission to the theme, nicely composed, good colour and lovely detail. It would appear as though that wheel has been painted numerous times too. TFS,
David

hello beverley,
an interesting stone wall. Nice colours andd light and good sharpness. I have nver heard of a stone wall describd as random. Obviously this is not the same as a dry stone wall as it is well pointed. I like the old wheel. Impressed that it has a genuine provenance and not one bought in.
regards
Bev
ps I was sure you would post a dry stone wall for this theme.

Hello Beverley,
Not a mass produced brick wall for sure!
Interesting combination, where the old wheel is brand new in comparison but they go well together...
Since this is my Complaining Day I have to mention the cut in the wheel, which isn't really called for but no big deal neither..!
Greetings,
Pablo -

HI Bev
The old wagon wheel always quite the decoration for a rustic looking decor.
The texture of the brick is so sharp with beautiful colors and of course the greenery and pebblestones a must.
Great shot
