[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Niall O'Brien waits anxiously for the ball, in order to "run out" the Irish batsman who has just got his bat over the line in time. (Shame I didn't get the ball just appearing in frame)

O'Brien is actually normally the wicket keeper for Ireland, and one of their star players. Ireland however, despite being a national side, are premitted to play in the English domestic "Friends Provident" tournament, under the developing countries scheme, as they are still relative minnows.

Trouble is, all their best players, like O'Brien, are contractually obliged, first and foremost, to their English county sides, and so have to play against their countrymen and team mates in this competition!

hi akeeler,

Andy,
Not understanding ANYTHING about cricket, I have to just mention the technical aspects of this photo. I like the capture of the action. The focus is crisp and the colors are nicely saturated. There seems to be no overexposure here and the composition is good, maybe I would have put the subjects farther to the left with anticipation of the incoming ball. In reality, we see the cricket player ready to accept the ball so it really isn't mandatory that the ball was in the frame. Some thing are better left to the imagination.
Well done,
Scott

Hi Andy,

I do not know anything about this game, but I can appreciate the effort of the runner! Nice action, looks like a "close call" too! I hope that your team wins!

tfs, Lisa

Hi Andy,
Nice action shot. Irish did well in the last world cup if I remember correctly. We don't see that many cricket related photos here on TL, so this one is especially welcome.
Sunil

Good sports action shot - great sharp details and really eye catching colours.
Thanks for sharing
